Guest Satanisk_Slakt
I've recently started to listen to alot of old pop-music, and I listened to Purple Rain (album) for the first time, not too long ago and really liked it. Anyway, I was thinking about downloading some more, but noticed that he had done extremely many albums. I doubt that all of them are good. So my question is of course; Which albums should I check out?

Angelica
What Lith said. Basically everything up until 1990 or so is essential. After that it gets trickier. Edited December 18, 2008 by Angelica

Black Monk Time
Yeah, everything Lithium said and maybe the love symbol album, too. Prince is a god.
Apollo
Wow. You are in such a special position. It's not very often to discover a legendary performer so late in his career.Dude. Seriously. Do it the ONLY way you can do this.Start at the beginning. Listen to his first album first. Then his second. And then his third. That would be such an awesome way to introduce yourself to prince's growth (or lack of it) as a singer and musician.Prince has evolved musically more than any other artist I can think of. And that's not necessarily a good thing.I used to be a Prince addict. From I wanna be your lover to controversy to private joy to little red corvette to i would die for you to when doves cry to pop live to kiss . . . . .but i haven't purchased any of this last albums. Probably the last 5-6 of them.
artfromtex
Sign O the Times (his magnum opus)1999Dirty MindControversyThe Gold Experiencei'd add "For You", "Prince" and "Purple Rain". that early boogie/funk/rock stuff is just great. and the actual sound of the albums is really cool.how can you not have "Purple Rain" on there? i know it committed the unforgivable sin of being popular, but it really is a good record. Estranged Reality
They played four new Prince songs on the radio today (including a cover of Crimson & Clover) off his upcoming album. Not too bad.
