KBear Posted March 14, 2009 Posted March 14, 2009 I've heard good and bad about these things. I've heard that they make a difference in speeding up a system and keeping it tidy. I've also heard that they can delete files you need and, well, fuck things up pretty good.I'm thinking of downloading ccleaner. I use TuneUp Utilities now. I got it due to great reviews. I like it's various features (it's a much better way to manage what programs automatically start up rather than msconfig for example), but I'm unsure of the registry cleaner. I actually ran it once and I think it deleted something that Adobe Flash requires, so Flash didn't work properly within Firefox until I re-installed Firefox. But I'm just guessing it was the registry cleaner that caused the problem. And I know you can back up the registry first, and restore it if you want. That's cool, but what if the cleaner mistakenly deletes a file needed to boot up the system? How can you restore the registry if you can't even boot up your PC?I run my registry cleaner every once in a while but there are always lots of entries it finds that I choose not to delete because I simply don't know exactly what they are.So what is your opinion on registry cleaners? Safe? Unsafe? Necessary? Or not? Quote

As your PC gets older and older (old than six months) its performance starts deteriorating and errors start showing up every now and then. And the time when your PC was new and performed excellently is a long forgotten dream. To start a program, system needs to search related information from registry, if the registry is over bloated or full of useless entries, system has to spend more time on it and even errors will show up. That’s why your PC will run slower and slower as the time goes on. Therefore, to keep your PC in optimal working condition, you need to free your PC from these undesired pieces of information. So just select one of such a tool to help you easily fix your PC! Quote
highvoltage Posted November 19, 2009 Posted November 19, 2009 Safe and you should use one for sure. CCleaner and Defraggler are both great, easy tools to use to speed up your system. Quote
