Snake Eyes Posted May 23, 2009 Posted May 23, 2009 (edited) Now I'm a fuckin huge fan of Hendrix, through all the cd's and dvd's I've bought of his (which is quite a bit) I've never heard something that's not utterly inspired, sort of groundbreaking and soulful. I don't fall into the whole "he is the ultimate guitar god" argument because music ain't a competition, but I will say he's definitly one of the most creative, inspired people in music of all time, at least in my books.Out of the records I still dig Are You Experienced? the most. My favourite Hendrix track is the 15 minute Voodoo Chile on Electric Ladyland, but the consistancy of playing back AYE? has always struck me as one of the greatest records made. I could listen to that album all day and would still enjoy it, the intro to Foxy Lady that starts it all of..that's as classic an example of Hendrix as it gets to me. Jumpin' Jack Flash Posted May 23, 2009 Posted May 23, 2009 This is probably one of the most difficult questions I have been asked I agree with what you said about the consistency and cohesiveness of AYE, but I also really dig Axis! Little Wing, If 6 was 9, Spanish Castle Magic, Castles Made of Sand and ofcourse the title track [with the epic godly solo ]... Then again, there's ELL which is just beyond amazing...I'm going to have to go with Electric Ladyland I think ELL is Hendrix's DEFINITIVE album. You have your Blues, Psychedelia, Hard Rock, everything...It's just brilliant. I'd like to point out however, that I think all of Hendrix's records are flawless rock2 rock1 Quote
oxocubeingravy Posted May 23, 2009 Posted May 23, 2009 I'd agree with your choice of "Are You Experienced?" B) Quote

It was a close choice between those two records. Some of the later releases like Blues I enjoyed as well (Hear My Train a'Comin etc.), and there are so many great live records out there. Band Of Gypsies has Machine Gun, so that one is my favourite by far, some of the greatest guitar playing on a single track I've ever heard. Quote

And Machine Gun is bloody brilliant! I love the guitar! Quote

Snake Eyes Posted May 23, 2009 Author Posted May 23, 2009 Though I must say that the CD I have has the infamous "nude" cover Lucky bastard. Ever hear that live recording of Hendrix and Jim Morrison? Can't remember what it's called but it's cool the amount of people he's collaborated with. Quote

dirtylenny Posted May 23, 2009 Posted May 23, 2009 That would be "Morrison's Lament". Hilarious stuff.FUCK HER IN THE ASS BAYYYYYYYY-BEEHHHHHHH!!!! On topic:Electricladyland: For the sheer fact that its Jimi totally cuttin' loose and, effectively, theres a decent representation (or the best out of his three albums at least) of his range and ability and all his Hendrixisms for want of a better word. That albums a beautiful thing. That slow jammy Voodoo Chile, ugh, talk about your audio orgasms. James Marshall was the man. Quote
Andrew07 Posted May 26, 2009 Posted May 26, 2009 are you experienced is an ok hendrix record, it has alot of his classic songs but i love what he does on electric ladyland, that shit is out there Quote
