Get Achtung Baby. In my opinion its their best album but they are all quite good.

Achtung Baby, Zooropa and Pop are much more experimental when compared to their earlier stuff.

Get All That You Can't Leave Behind as its a really good album and considered their 21st century comeback album.

To be honest you should just go and download/ buy all of them but I would start off with Achtung Baby, All That You Can't Leave Behind, The Unforgettable Fire and War

U2 - The Fly (Off of Achtung)

U2 - Gloria (Off of October)

U2 - Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me, Kill Me (Batman Forever Soundtrack)

Man club a baby seal to death, conduct abortions, join the nazi party, start a child porn ring before you put a U2 record on, there's a reccomendation.

Most of those pretentious banda you are always trying to talk about, would give their left nut to have u2's output.

U2 is Joy Division fully realized.

I agree, but I don't think it should be a first pick for a next album if he doesn't have Actung Baby! or Pop. Picking up Zooropa after Pop would probably be a good choice.

Numb is also a great track from Zooropa.

I disagree.

IMO, Pop is a harder listen then Zooropa.

Zooropa is one great single away from being U2's best work.

But really, if I was going to get someone going on U2 this is the order I would tell them to go in for the first couple of albums:

War

Achtung Baby

Unforgettable Fire

Zooropa

October

Boy

Pop

Joshua Tree

I actually heard U2's first two albums or so are their best, with a pretty different sound than what they turned into, is there any truth to that?

Their first three albums sound totally different from almost anything after that. They're great though, but not their best in my opinion.

A few months back when I was first getting into U2, I said that HTDAAB was my favorite, but that has changed a good bit. Personally, I think my three favorites are Actung Baby!, Zooropa and either The Joshua Tree or No Line On The Horizon. Pop is very close though, along with War.

I disagree.

IMO, Pop is a harder listen then Zooropa.

Zooropa is one great single away from being U2's best work.

I'm not saying that it's a lesser work in any way, I just think someone might enjoy it more after a listen through Pop. I don't know though. I'm probably wrong, but either way, if someone is asking for a U2 recommendation and they don't own Actung Baby!, that would be the first pick.

Joshua Tree and Achtung are the big two. Then maybe All That You Can't Leave Behind. With No Line they come to end of the raod again so the next record will have to be a big one or they will break up.

The trilogy of Achtung, Zooropa, Pop is pretty accessible for most rock fans.

I would agree that the 90's trilogy of albums; Achtung, Zooropa and Pop are great but also agree that the next album will have to be big and maybe a direction change as they have tended to do things ln batches of three.

Boy, October, War

Unforgettable Fire, Joshua Tree, Rattle and Hum

Achtung Baby, Zooropa, Pop

All That You Can't Leave Behind, How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb, No Line On The Horizon

Seems like they are ready for a new trilogy of albums in a newer direction.

I sure hope so!!

I can't stand All That You Can't Leave Behind or No Line On The Horizon. Out of the last 3 albums, I think Bomb is the best.

This is what I was getting at, but couldn't remember all the albums.

Maybe they'll go to Bahgdad to record the next big album. I could see them doing some sort of middle eastern trilogy.

I can only see it being released during the hiatus between the tour this year and the tour next year if it were to happen or it will be released as a kind of B-Sides album or something.

I remember watching an interview with Bono and the Edge on MTV2 where they both said that the work they did with Rick Rubin will eventually come to something so who knows? He might be helping them with a new album when it eventually comes out. If they do kind of do the Trilogy again though it will be for the last time I would imagine.

U2 aren't going anywhere too soon.

They signed a contract with Live-Nation for a whole bunch of years, so they can't really retire or anything just yet. And if the contract was just for touring or whatever (I read the article awhile ago so I don't full remember it), there's no way they'll be able to stay away from the studio.

They're only 50, and they all love doing what they do. So personally, I think there will be at least another three albums.

Well in the case of this trilogy. ATYCLB, HTDAAB and NLOTH it took about 9 years to release all 3 albums. So if there is another 9 years for the following trilogy then those will be the last.

The fact also remains their back catalogue contains so much diverse work and different styles that even if they didnt make anymore albums then they would be able to tour very successfully using the older material.

I saw an interview on tv where Bono said that No Line was the conclusion of the cycle they started with All That You Can't...but I think out that came this idea for this mediative album, it was mentioned in the Michael Asayers book, it's more of a Bono spiritual album.
