Snake Eyes Posted November 10, 2009 Posted November 10, 2009 Listening now, looks like it should be in my top ten records of the year. Quote
Black Sabbath Posted November 10, 2009 Posted November 10, 2009 I'm on Warsaw Or The First Breath You Take After You Give Up, and so far the only song I wasn't too fond of was Interlude With Ludes. Loving this album. <3 Quote
Black Sabbath Posted November 10, 2009 Posted November 10, 2009 Gunman as a whole is clearly a subliminal message calling for a dance-remix. Quote
ColdHeartBreaker Posted November 10, 2009 Posted November 10, 2009 Can't get the wow-factor some of you guys are getting, actually some songs almost make me yawn, sorry. I thought that fang song was catchy.. Quote
Gods Favourite Posted November 10, 2009 Posted November 10, 2009 I don't really know which song's my favourite, but I must say that I keep listening to Gunman and New Fang. I guess they're the ones I'm liking the most atm Quote
WHENEVER Posted November 10, 2009 Posted November 10, 2009 Just listened to the whole album on their website and from beginning to end it's one of the best albums i've heard in years..what really stands out is how many different influences you can hear...great album Quote
krissirge Posted November 11, 2009 Posted November 11, 2009 Josh Homme is singing?Damn,I've pretty much hated everything QOTSA has put out,so I wont get my hopes up. Quote
makkonen Posted November 11, 2009 Posted November 11, 2009 (edited) Disappointment of the year Oh well, nothing surprising there though B-grade stuff mostly (Z-grade if you used to play in Led Zeppelin) Edited November 11, 2009 by makkonen Quote
Gods Favourite Posted November 11, 2009 Posted November 11, 2009 ..what really stands out is how many different influences you can hear...great albumI agree, you can really hear the different styles and influences on this album, it's great. I really really like this album. Quote
sr9409 Posted November 11, 2009 Posted November 11, 2009 It comes out Nov. 17 (for those who didn't know) and I'm definately buying it! Quote
eye2eye Posted November 12, 2009 Posted November 12, 2009 Very Good Album. As far as instrumental side goes it is awesome, something great really master effort, but I've got problems with vocals some songs they work perfectly but on other music scream for vocals with more kick , more agressive of course singers like Plant, Axl, Tyler weren't possible but even Grohl would make that songs sick, but overally it's very very good record. Estranged Reality Posted November 13, 2009 Author Posted November 13, 2009 I've got problems with vocalsI've got problems with you.Seriously though, I love Josh Homme's voice. He gets better with each album; he's always trying something different. I don't think any other singer captures that sleazy, sensual side of rock n' roll as well as he does. Quote
Black Sabbath Posted November 14, 2009 Posted November 14, 2009 I still can't seem to get into Interlude With Ludes. Also, Warsaw Or The First Breath You Take After You Give Up (which we will all abbreviate as WOTFBUTAYGU from now on ) seems to drag on a bit, but it's a good track. My last "complaint" are the vocals for Scumbag Blues. I'm not a fan of Homme's "falsetto". Love the music for it, but I wish he would have recorded the vocals differently.Other than that, I love this band and this album. Absolutely great.Them Crooked Vultures - Them Crooked Vultures 9/10 Quote
Estranged Reality Posted November 14, 2009 Author Posted November 14, 2009 I still can't seem to get into Interlude With Ludes. After getting high and drunk last night and trying to drown out sounds of my roommate having bad sex with a girl whose orgasms resembled canned laughter from an episode of Everybody Loves Raymond, I played this track on my iPod about 10 times in a row. I love it.My last "complaint" are the vocals for Scumbag Blues. I'm not a fan of Homme's "falsetto".I like it because he's channeling Cream and sounds closer to Cream than any other band that's ever tried to channel Cream. Quote
Black Sabbath Posted November 14, 2009 Posted November 14, 2009 I do like the vocals, but I'm curious as to what the song would sound like if he sang it like he does on tracks like Gunman or Bandoliers. I still love the track though and the opening for it always gets me pumped up. Quote
chevelle Posted November 14, 2009 Posted November 14, 2009 Disappointment of the year I'd leave that to Weezer's new album. Quote
axl_on_drums Posted November 14, 2009 Posted November 14, 2009 9/10 for me.The album is a total ear fuck, I'm obsessed.Warsaw drags a bit though, few songs should push 8 minutes. That's my only beef. Quote
eye2eye Posted November 14, 2009 Posted November 14, 2009 It's 8.5/10 for me. Great album !! two complains - 2-3 songs would benefit from more aggressive vocal approach and having David Grohl in band would do the trick- a little too compressed. But I think it is real band not one time thing - John Paul Jones isn't involved in other projects- Foo Fighters announced hiatus - Quenns of the Stone Age is still alive but Josh Homme should be able to split time between two bands So it could be only beginning of Them Crooked Vultures Quote
Estranged Reality Posted November 18, 2009 Author Posted November 18, 2009 I bought it today. Sounds fantastic blasting in my car. Quote
Black Sabbath Posted November 18, 2009 Posted November 18, 2009 Hopefully I'll be able to pick it up this weekend. How is the insert? Are lyrics and pictures included? Quote
