Gods Favourite Posted August 30, 2009 Posted August 30, 2009 My Logitech MX518 suddenly stopped working last night. Suddenly the laser just went out and it wouldn't work. I tried putting it in, in all 3 USB-outputs. 2 of them makes the laser turn on, but wont make the mouse work on the screen.1 of them doesn't do anything to the mouse at all. What could be the problem here? I wasn't doing anything special with it, it just happened suddenly while my girlfriend was surfing around on the computer. Quote
Guest Satanisk_Slakt Posted August 30, 2009 Posted August 30, 2009 (edited) It's broken. Buy a new? Edited August 30, 2009 by Satanisk_Slakt Quote
Gods Favourite Posted August 30, 2009 Author Posted August 30, 2009 It works on other computers. It's really weird though. Because other mouses doesn't work on my computer either, but it's not the USB-port that's broken, because I can still connect my iPhone etc. Quote
Guest Satanisk_Slakt Posted August 30, 2009 Posted August 30, 2009 Yeah well, I don't know shit about computers. You'll have to wait for Max or Kevin or someone like them. Quote
Black Sabbath Posted August 30, 2009 Posted August 30, 2009 Are there any batteries in the mouse? If so, it could be worth a shot to try replacing them and seeing if that does anything. Also, have you tried using the mouse on different surfaces? Because I know mine will only work on certain surfaces itself. Quote
The Sandman Posted August 30, 2009 Posted August 30, 2009 I'm guessing there'll be a connection problem, a wire's come loose. Try the USB plug on the mouse itself or the one going into the mouse. Shame, that's a nice mouse - hope it's under warranty! Quote

And yes, I have tried to put it on other surfaces, doesn't help Thanks though.I'm guessing there'll be a connection problem, a wire's come loose. I've read that multiple places on the net. But if that's the problem, why won't other mouses work on my computer either? And why does it work on other computers? Yeah, it's the best mouse I've ever had and if I had to buy a new one because of this, there's no doubt it'll be the same one Edited August 31, 2009 by Gods Favourite Quote
highvoltage Posted August 31, 2009 Posted August 31, 2009 You can borrow mine. It's been playing up too.... Quote
Max™ Posted August 31, 2009 Posted August 31, 2009 (edited) Try uninstalling the mouse in device manager under "USB human interface devices" and "mice and pointing devices". Reboot and let it reinstall. Its most likely going to be a driver problem, normally resolved by uninstalling and reinstalling. Edited August 31, 2009 by Max™ Quote
Gods Favourite Posted August 31, 2009 Author Posted August 31, 2009 (edited) But when I access "Mice and other pointing devices", the only thing that shows is "Dell Touchpad". I'm guessing it doesn't have anything to do with that, or? I do believe it has something to do with the driver though. I've tried 3 other mouses other than my own, none of them works on my computer :/. I'm really lost here. Thanks for helping Max!You can borrow mine. It's been playing up too....Reported!!!!! Let's see what the admin has to say about that, HA! Edited August 31, 2009 by Gods Favourite Quote
The Sandman Posted August 31, 2009 Posted August 31, 2009 Do the MXs come with drivers to be installed? If you never installed them, try installing them off the CD or get the latest ones from the site. However, it should work without any problems, as they're nearly all plug and play - hence why I'm guessing the problem is with the mouse itself. Quote

The Sandman Posted August 31, 2009 Posted August 31, 2009 Problem with ports/drivers on the PC then - that's all it can be. Quote
Gods Favourite Posted August 31, 2009 Author Posted August 31, 2009 (edited) Just seems weird since I can still connect my iPhone, external hard drive etc.Guess I'll call Dell tomorrow. Edited August 31, 2009 by Gods Favourite Quote
kevin Posted August 31, 2009 Posted August 31, 2009 This can of squirt says your drivers suck, get ones that work Quote
Gods Favourite Posted August 31, 2009 Author Posted August 31, 2009 I've never had to use a driver for any mouse ever. I tried downloading the newest from Logitech's own website, didn't help though. Quote
KBear Posted September 11, 2009 Posted September 11, 2009 (edited) I've had a similar issue. My Logitech mouse sometimes just doesn't work when I start up my PC. Most of the time it does work but it fails frequently enough for it to be a pain in the ass.Basically I can click the left and right mouse button, that works, but I can't move the pointer. I have to yank out the USB cable and use my crappy Dell mouse instead for a while. Then, maybe a couple of days later, I'll plug in the Logitech and it'll work again for another month or two before it inevitably fails. I've got the Logitech mouseware program installed. I guess I could try uninstalling it but I've been too lazy to do that. Edited September 11, 2009 by KBear Quote
ThinkAboutYou Posted September 11, 2009 Posted September 11, 2009 (edited) aww that's why I love my bluetooth keyboard and mouse Edited September 11, 2009 by ThinkAboutYou Quote
Gods Favourite Posted September 11, 2009 Author Posted September 11, 2009 FYI, my mouse started working again, I don't how, but it works now Quote
Gods Favourite Posted September 5, 2010 Author Posted September 5, 2010 What the.. It happened again This is pretty weird. Weird fact: This time it happened almost an exact year after the first time. 1 year + 8 days. Hmm Quote
chevelle Posted September 7, 2010 Posted September 7, 2010 (edited) Maybe it's the equivalent of a period for your mouse. Women sure don't want to work when they have theirs, after all. Edited September 7, 2010 by chevelle Quote
Gods Favourite Posted September 7, 2010 Author Posted September 7, 2010 Probably something like that, haha. Got it to work the same night though, so NO WORRIES MYGNR!!!! Quote
inthisriver Posted September 26, 2010 Posted September 26, 2010 I thought this thread was going to be about a pet rodent who got laid off or something... Quote
