GivenToFly Posted October 19, 2009 Posted October 19, 2009 What a year for rock!Physical Graffiti, Toys In The Attic, Blood On The Tracks, ACDC's international debut, Born To Run, A Night At The Opera, Wish You Were Here, and I'm probably forgetting some.Discuss how awesome 1975 was! Quote
Lithium Posted October 19, 2009 Posted October 19, 2009 (edited) Yeah, a pretty good year for rock music. Desire by Bob Dylan is probably my favourite. And ambient music had one of its milestones that year, with Eno's Another Green World - one of the most interesting albums of that decade. Edited October 19, 2009 by Lithium Quote

Guest deleted_19765 Posted October 19, 2009 Posted October 19, 2009 A good year, but I do tend to prefer the latter end of the 70s. The climate and sounds in music around 1977 are worth a trip quite often. Quote
dirtylenny Posted October 19, 2009 Posted October 19, 2009 Fuckin shit year if you ask me, a few exceptions aside...most of the charts were fucking stagnant with a bunch of old dinosaur bullshit...and then along came a boy called John and three others called Paul, Glen and Steve And later one called Sidney The real substance of 75 was down one drag in NYC. Load of fuckin tired old crap apart from that. Quote
moreblack Posted October 19, 2009 Posted October 19, 2009 Killer year, shame about the years after this one... Quote

I think it was a great year for classic rock - you had guys like Bob Dylan, Springsteen, Pink Floyd, Aerosmith and Queen, all at their finest. And that's in addition to the numerous excellent and essential albums from the artists of other genres and sub-genres. Quote
LightningBolt Posted October 19, 2009 Posted October 19, 2009 '75 was a great year. It's up there with '69, '73, '86, and '91. Quote
Jumpin' Jack Flash Posted October 19, 2009 Posted October 19, 2009 1975 was a pretty decent year, High Voltage, Physical Graffiti, WIsh You Were Here, Night At The Opera, etc..Not as good as '67, '69, '71, '73, '77 or '91 though. Quote

I don't get Pink Floyd, they mainly bores the fuck out of me outside of a few songs...but that's just me, I know that most people don't share my view. Edited October 22, 2009 by Soulseller Quote
Vincent Vega Posted October 22, 2009 Posted October 22, 2009 '75 was a great year for rock. Bad year in my family--my mom's dad died suddenly in October at the age of 54 of stroke--while my aunt and grandmother were sitting next to him. Quote

Maybe i just haven't been exposed to the music of said bands (aside from Dylan whom i believe is a deity and Aerosmith who i think are pretty cool) properly or i've approached them with a lot of preconcieved notions but to date, neither of the bands mentioned, aside from the two exceptions pointed out, have done much for me...or anything for me. Who knows whoose praises i'll be singing tommorow. But Pink Floyd i find...tame and patronising. Springsteen i find just plain boring and Queen i find highly overrated although i recognise that Freddie Mercury was a fantastic showman (the usual party line, i know).Because you get so bored by Pink Floyd that you have to turn it off after 20 seconds?sorry, couldn't resist. Fuck it, i'll give it a spin now Check out Born to Run or Darkness on the Edge of Town... you probably won't like it that much now but in a year or so you'll get this weird urge and then you're fuckin' sold. That's what happened to me. And get on Neil Young yet if you haven't done it already, I seem to remember a thread about you saying that you have ignored him....but who knows I'm drunk so whatever...anyway check out Rust Never Sleeps - and especially Hey Hey My My (Into The Black). oh, and Powderfinger, and Southern Man (from After the Gold Rush) or just pretty much anything he made during the '70s except Harvest and Comes a Time (they're good but probably not you're thing - not mine either to be honest). GivenToFly Posted October 25, 2009 Author Posted October 25, 2009 I just found out that the absolutely mindblowing song also came out in 1975 (along with its album, but I haven't heard that one). This year just seems better and better! Quote
Shuffle Posted October 25, 2009 Posted October 25, 2009 (edited) I'm not a fan of Ted Nugent but that's a good song (and album). Edited October 25, 2009 by Soulseller Quote
moreblack Posted October 25, 2009 Posted October 25, 2009 it's no coincidence that all of that music, those albums are still talked about to this day. Quote
