But I do. And I have explained to them what swearing is and what the different swear words mean when they have asked. I would never shy away from helping my kids understand the world. And despite this, they don't swear themselves.

I mean, kids aren't damaged from hearing or learning about swearing. There is no more power in swear words than what we attribute to them.

Slash and Myles Kennedy are the modern day Mick Jagger/Keith Richards. Steven Tyler/Joe Perry. If they have a new album out, you can damn well be sure I'll be first in fucking line.

Same, I'll be there.

It's a bit weird, isn't it? Their culture is full of swearing, yet they seem to have this belief kids are hurt if they ever hear one. Then stop using them, morons!

Yes, please continue to stereotype a country of 335 million people 👍🏻

Sure. Then you have this other stereotype where Americans are absolute prunes about nudity, yet so many aspects of their culture is based on appearance and sex.

But yeah, I get your point and of course such paradoxes kind of resolves themselves when you look into the variation of cultures within the US, including the dichotomy of conservatives vs liberals, the puritan south vs the coast, the cities vs the rural areas, major broadcast networks vs smaller independent channels, the religious nuts vs the not religious nuts, San Francisco vs, well, about everywhere else. And it's going to be interesting to see what these increasing divides that split the US society apart will result in. We already see how their politics is absolutely fucked with their two parties just taking off in different directions. Still, looking at the US from afar, without such a magnifying glass, it is hard to not be fascinated by how their culture is so full of swearing and yet how many social circumstances in the US where swearing would be frowned upon, and how the culture is so full of naked bodies yet how so many Americans seem to think the naked body is somehow shameful or dangerous.

All Brazilians are for clearing out the rainforest and raising more cattle. Their president is for it so all Brazilians obviously feel the exact same way.  :shrugs:

Yeah, I didn't argue that all Americans have a conflicted relationship with swearing or cursing, but pointed out that on the surface there definitely seems to be a thing with US' society (as compared to, say, Europe), and even explained how such apparent paradoxes may arise from the fact that USA is such a heterogenous society.

Myles has the charisma of a paperclip and the talent of a run of the mill by the numbers session musician. Seems like a nice guy but personally I can't stand him.

My heart will sink if they do a residency. What the fuck is wrong with them?

Yeah, they love violence but they're weird about sex. I dunno if this was an American's doing but I was listening to Common People by Pulp and realised 'screw' meaning to fuck - is censored. Unbelievable.

OMG....this type of attitude screws (oops sorry) kids up more than swear words...

I feel dissappointed, I read an article yesterday that suggested Guns will be extending the reunion tour and little likelihood of new music.  What happened to 'New Chapter' I wonder.

I've cursed in gettin m front of my kids since they were born.   I don't get upset if they swear as long as they're not being disrespectful to their elders and such.   I also find no shame in the human body and think America in general should not be so focused on censorship.

I live in the deep southern states, where you'd think it would be super conservative, but we have the French Quarter, Mardi Gras and encourage guilty pleasures

As a parent I try to come in at this with the argument that it doesn't really matter what words you use, but what your intention behind their use is. Words are just tools of communication, including swear words. I always ask my kids to look for intention, why the words are used, and that every word can be good or bad depending on context and intention. Cursing can be bad, like if you do it to hurt someone; but also not bad if you use it for, say, exclamation with no ill intent. There's simply a difference between, "you're a fucking disgrace" and "I fucking love you".

But as far as using swear words themselves, I try to teach them to use them sparingly even when there is no ill intent simply because some people, those that think the words themselves are bad, are bound to react negatively when they hear them regardless of intent.

Yeah definitely.

If they disappoint for the Aussie shows it's safe to say they have no aspirations to be worthwhile and when they come here it'll have to be a hard pass.

Oh, I am disheartened sad to hear that. I should have used shorter words.

*loads shotgun* We don't like them fancy book-learnin' words round these parts, mister!

You didn’t use a full stop at the end of your sentence. I’m so angry !

You erroneously made a space before your exclamation mark. I'm so disappointed.

It’s hyper irritating when you go into an Axl post just to see the chat and it’s almost exclusively folk professing their undying love and sharing video montages of him. Every single post and it’s not just a couple - it’s LOADS folk time and again. 🤦‍♂️

Moan over. 🤣
