Gordon Comstock Posted January 31, 2010 Posted January 31, 2010 (edited) So, I'd heard about this band before but never really bothered to check them out. Until recently.I searched some of their stuff on YouTube and quite enjoyed it, so I went out and bought the album "Death Cult Armageddon".Im really enjoying this band, which is weird because I like only a select few Black Metal bands or bands similar to the genre. Are there any other fans on here? Or fans of similar bands? (I remember a thread for "At The Gates" where there were some people on here who liked them). Edited January 31, 2010 by RickRoses Quote
LightningBolt Posted January 31, 2010 Posted January 31, 2010 I know very few metalheads who have given Dimmu Borgir much credibility, so I've never bothered with them. I may listen to your links a bit later, but not really in the mood to right now. I think they do deserve some respect for bringing Black Metal a bit more to the mainstream. Most Black Metal fanatics claim to hate the idea, but this can lead to other, more "deserving" bands to get some recognition as well. Whatever, I'm indifferent, I've never been big on Black Metal. P.A. Guns Posted January 31, 2010 Posted January 31, 2010 I've never been big on BM, either, but the Serpentine Offering is a pretty sweet song. But Dimmu Borgir is pretty...meh. I like it when the one guy did some work on Kamelot's The Black Halo. Quote
Gordon Comstock Posted January 31, 2010 Author Posted January 31, 2010 Again, I never really like too much Black Metal, but "Death Cult Armageddon" is a pretty kick ass album. "The principle of evil made flesh" by Cradle Of Filth is the only 'black metal' (its pretty black metal, but its still.... different) album that i REALLY love, but theres some others that kick ass....Lightning: Listen to Progenies of the great apocalypse, it kicks ass, even though that link is the single version not the album version Quote
DeSiRe F***K Posted January 31, 2010 Posted January 31, 2010 I have been a fan of Dimmu Borgir for many years thanks to my Husband Quote
Guest Satanisk_Slakt Posted February 4, 2011 Posted February 4, 2011 They're okay. They aren't to be compared to these old Norwegian black metal bands that had their high in the '90's. These evil fuckers that murdered and burned churches. Real psychos, that made a pretty damn much better music. Quote
st0n3r Posted February 4, 2011 Posted February 4, 2011 I bought 'Death Cult Armageddon' a couple of years back. People told me it might get me into that style of music. It didn't. I guess it just isn't for me. Quote

Mayhem and Burzum are my favourites of the evil ones I mentioned. Other than that I like Dissection, Marduk, Immortal, Dark Funeral and Satyricon more. I know there are more, but these are the ones that gets on my mind right now. Quote
Guest Satanisk_Slakt Posted February 4, 2011 Posted February 4, 2011 You absolutely don't have to. But they make better music. As simple as that. Another two bands I come to think of are Behemoth and Venom. Quote
Guest Satanisk_Slakt Posted February 4, 2011 Posted February 4, 2011 (edited) What do you classify them as? Death? They may be. I'm not an expert of the differences. But they are damn good. I'd say that their early albums are black but the sooner are death, but as said, I'm not an expert on the matter. It's just my opinion. Edited February 4, 2011 by Satanisk_Slakt Quote
Guest Satanisk_Slakt Posted February 4, 2011 Posted February 4, 2011 We'll agree to disagree then, because I will not fold myself on this matter, all of the bands I mentioned are better.Especially Mayhem, Immortal and Dissection (which have made the very best album in the genre, in Storm of the Light's Bane by the way.) Quote
Guest Satanisk_Slakt Posted February 4, 2011 Posted February 4, 2011 I think I've heard most, if not all albums by Dimmu at one point or another. I'm not saying they are bad, they are really good, but there are better. Quote
Guest Satanisk_Slakt Posted February 5, 2011 Posted February 5, 2011 1. Dissection2. Mayhem3. Immortal Quote
Guest Satanisk_Slakt Posted February 5, 2011 Posted February 5, 2011 No, I've not heard their new album. I have no idea what happened or if it happened with Megadeth. But that album, Storm of the Light's Bane, is probably even better than In Flames album Jester Race, which is arguable the best Death Metal album there is. Quote
bt88 Posted February 5, 2011 Posted February 5, 2011 (edited) Im a metal guy but never got into Dimmu. Too theatrical. But they do have some chopsI can say though that Rick Roses got me into Cradle of Filth. Dani's vocals still keep me away a little but theyve got some good stuff If we;re talking best black metal you have to include Agalloch, Nachtmystium, Emperor and Xasthur in the conversation. Guest Satanisk_Slakt Posted February 5, 2011 Posted February 5, 2011 Cradle of Filth is a band I've always thought was worthless. Quote
(t) Posted February 5, 2011 Posted February 5, 2011 listening to Immortal right now actually. aren't Dissection that band that got thrown off a Megadeth tour becuase Dave Mustaine didn't like their band name or something? lol. That was Rotting Christ I believe. Quote
-Sephiroth- Posted February 6, 2011 Posted February 6, 2011 Great band. Love their first 7 albums, the 3 latest not so much. It sucks that they sacked Wortex and Mustiis in 2009, Simen (Wortex) has the best clean-vocals ever used in black metal Quote

Vortex and Mustis were cool but I dont mind them being gone. But I cant argue with that last statement. 2:25 to 3:06 is just amazing.btw its Vortex not "Wortex"Vortex ofcourse, dunno how I got to spell it with a w all of a sudden. Check out Simens vocal parts at 4:45 that leads into one of Galders finer guitar solos Quote
