I know this has the old band and all that shit, and i know most of you have seen this 100 times, but I think the new band would absolutely own this song. Watch Dizzy in this video and you can just tell that if they did this song today Dizzy would rip it up check out 3:35. Slash was great in this video, but Ashba or Bumble would tear up that solo too. I just want to hear Axl sing this song one more time............fuckin badass...how amazing would it be to see the this live in South America next month?

As much as I love the studio version, I really don't think live renditions were that good...

Sure I would really want to hear the new band play it, but there's a huge trainwreck potential. :shrugs:

Yeah I agree. I love the studio version of Prostitute as well but I can't stand it live. It loses so many dimensions I feel

Anyways, Estranged was a great studio-song. Never really though it was that great live though. Same with SCOM, even though it was great during the '80's and now these days. Axls voice wasn't really great for some of their songs during the Illusion tour.

I never thought it was that good live either, I've yet to hear a live version that I find even nearly as good as the studio version. That said, I'd still like to hear Axl take a crack at it now.

Sorry I love what the new band is doing. That has already been done and I can listen too it anytime I want. And yes it is one of my fav. gnr songs.

I would think they all have to know the GNR songs inside and out in case Axl decides on a whim to do any one of them. In 2010, sound systems are as good as they get, so I don't see why not.

When posters say that they never liked the live version, does that mean the recorded live version or their actual experiences in hearing it live at the show?

Axl seems to virtually ignore all of the Illusions track bar November Rain these days.

He plays Knockin' On Heaven's Door, Live and let Die and You could be mine every show.

I wan't to hear this bands version of Double Talkin Jive. Yeah, I know, just a mediocre UYI song but this song was killer live, with the extended guitar solos. I would be VERY interested to hear Bumble or Ashba's attempt at the 10 minute solo/improv.

Whenever the topic of an older song comes up ESTRANGED is always mentioned. Hearing it live in 2010 would be epic.

It's an epic song and should not be ignored in the catalog. In my opinion many Illusion songs should be played on a more regular basis including Civil War, Estranged, Yesterdays, Perfect Crime, Don't Cry, You Ain't The First (acoustic), Double-Talkin Jive, Breakdown, Pretty Tied Up, Dead Horse, Locomotive.

100% correct. What's funny is people argue these songs would bring down the show! The Illusions sold like 30 million worldwide! Chances are people at the shows, know these songs!

People would certainly know some of the songs (Civil War, Don't Cry, Yesterdays, maybe Estranged), but a lot of the Illusions stuff is considered pretty obscure still. If they came out and played Breakdown or So Fine, how many people do you think would be really into it? Granted, up-tempo stuff like Right Next Door To Hell, Perfect Crime, or Double Talkin' Jive would get the crowd nice and rowdy, still I would hardly expect too many people to know them

I still fail to see why anyone thinks this is why we've yet to hear Estranged. 48 doesn't exactly contradict the "old at heart" the way 28 does, and sort of loses some of the meaning.

I would guve a lot to hear this live. But I feel This I love is kind of a sequel to it, and maybe more appropriate to where he's at now. But they play older songs than Estranged so they might play it again, let's hope so!

I'm happy with the shows they're doing, but I would love to hear Guns' perform this again, such a beautiful song. Great performance! "Maybe I'll get it right next time - I doubt it!" Lol!

what are you guys talking about? i think the version in the youtube video above sounds awesome live. and I would love to hear gnr play this these days. i just wonder if it brings back too many slash memories for axl... cause in the liner notes, he thanks slash for the riffs.

I don't think you understand that line in the song.

He's only 28, BUT he feels old in his heart. He's much too young to have a broken heart. 28 doesn't contradict "old at heart", it explains how he feels old even though he's young.

He doesn't use 28 as proof that he's old at heart.

Besides, he could easily say "old at heart, but I was only 28, and much to young to let love break my heart".

Nazareth sort of makes fun of "I'm young, I know" when they do Love Hurts.
