LightningBolt
Death Magnetic is an average album at best. It sounds like it has been mixed with a tractor its so muddy and the songs on it are average at best with only 2 very good songs. Personally I think Load, Reload and St. Anger are better as atleast they sounded different and tried to do something different.Death Magnetic reeks of desperation and Metallica trying to regain their former glory but failing.Agreed with everything, especially that last statement. Death Magnetic is my least favorite album of theirs. ...And Justice For All comes in second.EDIT: To rate like bacardimayneKEA: 8, RTL: 10, MOP: 9, AFJA: 3, TBA: 8, Load: 6, RL: 6, SA: 5, DM: 2 Edited April 9, 2010 by LightningBolt

Tater Totts
And my Metallica thread-hijacking process is complete. How can you not like AFJA?The mixing on it isn't the best, I mean it isn't on a par with the muddy loudness of Death Magnetic but the EQ isn't quite right. The bass is far to buried in the mix and at times you can barely hear it. The guitars don't seem as alive and dynamic as the first 3 albums for me.I don't rate AJFA as low as LB did, probably a 5/6 from me but for the most part the album does nothing for me when compared to their other work. bacardimayne
What do I know? I think Risk is a really good album, well maybe not but I enjoy listening to it everytime heh, I never really gave Risk a chance. Maybe I should. What's the general consensus on best Megadeth albums around here?
LightningBolt
I really like Youthanasia, but I'm not sure if it's my favorite. You probably won't find many people who agree with me on that, though. My favorite is probably So Far, So Good.... So What!.
Tater Totts
I really like Risk because it is quite cheesy, kind of a so bad its good kind of album that doesn't take itself too seriously.United Abominations is good as is Rust In Peace but Youthanasia is probably my favourite. Andrew07
risk is still a great album, it may not be typical megadeth but its still something

hbkdx1125
For years the only Megadeth song that I knew was Crush 'Em from the Risk album b/c it was used to hype of Goldberg's comback in WCW many years ago. Pretty good song. I have been a Metallica fan for quite awhile and had always meant to give Megadeth a shot. I eventually bought "Killing Is My Business..." about a year ago. At first listen I was less than impressed but there were a few things that I liked. I bought Endgame the day it came out and absolutely loved it! Amazing stuff. This made me go back to "Killing Is My Business..." and I soon became quite the fan of that album. Next I bought "Peace Sells... But Who's Buying?" but the only tracks I really liked were Wake Up Dead and Peace Sells. The rest of the album was just okay. Finally I bought "Rust In Peace" a couple months ago. First listen and my mind was blown. It has been in constant rotation on my car stereo. Once I've had my fix of "RIP" I'll likely give "So Far So Good... So What" a shot.As far as the Metallica vs. Megadeth argument that has been going on here I go prefer Metallica but to me the two bands make very different music nowadays. The first few album are comparable but that's about it. Personally I think both bands are great but something has to be said for Metallica only switching out the bass player twice (and one of those times was out of anyones control) while Megadeth changes band members quite a bit more frequently. LightningBolt
I don't know if you'd like So Far, So Good... So What! to be honest. Seems like you're more into their more "polished" sound (I hate to call that it, but I'm at a loss for a better word). Endgame and Rust In Peace are far more polished in production and in songwriting than their earlier albums, which are straight up speed/thrash metal. I think you should either go for United Abominations or Countdown to Extinction next.Of course I may be totally off in my assessment, so you should probably get a taste for those albums via YouTube before you make any kind of decision. I'll tell you my favorites from those three albums, to help you out a bit more.CTE: High Speed Dirt, Symphony for Destruction, Skin o' My TeethUA: Sleepwalker, Burnt IceSFSGSW: In My Darkest Hour (probably my favorite 'Deth song), Mary Jane, Set the World Afire
hbkdx1125
Hey thanks for the recommendations and what not man. I have been listening to some of the songs that you listed on Youtube and I like them. In My Darkest Hour was damn good. I definitely plan to do a bit of sampling before I decide on the next album to buy. When I was first thinking of buying a Megadeth CD I read quite a few customer reviews on Amazon.com to see which CD would be a good starting place and there seemed to be a lot of mixed reviews over the 2004 remastered CD's. I have the remastered version of "Killing Is My Business..." and "Peace Sells..." but I was able to hunt down an original copy of "Rust In Peace". To me RIP sounds great but like it was said, RIP is one of the bands more polished albums. Anybody have any problem with the remasters of the older CD's like say CTE or SFSGSW? I have compared some of the remastered tracks from my CD's with the originals that I found on Youtube and I can definitely tell a bit of a difference on most of them but nothing drastic for the most part (except for the vocals on Five Magics but I've heard the story behind that one). This comment is coming from someone very new to Megadeth so I imagine that a longtime lister who heard remastered versions of their favorite CD's would notice the difference. Kind of like if I heard a remastered/reworked version of a GN'R album.... I would definitely hear a difference.
Guest Sweet Tooth
I'm a newer fan of Megadeth's, really loving their stuff! I'm seeing them in the summer time with Slayer and I think Testament, is it? Really can't wait!I listen to Megadeth Radio a lot, check it out! Plays a lot of their influences - http://www.iheartradio.com/mediaplayer/?stream_id=4584&channel_title=Megadeth%20Radio
FuddMckagan
Youthanasia is definitely my overall favourite album, but I imo the best songs are on Rust In Peace. Tornado Of Souls, Hangar 18, Rust In Peace...Polaris. All great stuff.

Young_Gun
Risk had some really STAND OUT songs on it. Wonderlust, Ecstacy and Breadline are really good songs. Im glad Megadeth put out an album like this because its so different to what they usually do and was really fresh, even compared to other bands. Best Megadeth album? Rust in Peace i reckon. Every album has killer tracks on it.
American Psycho
Risk is actually a pretty good album, compared to St.Anger it's a masterpiece.Srsly, Metallica havent made one decent album since ''Kill Em All''.Im a fan of Metallica's early days ( Cliff & Dave era ) When Cliff died, Metallica died. Can't wait to see Megadeth live this year, wish i had the chance to go to the BIG FOUR OF THRASH concert in Poland. WhatsHerface
Srsly, Metallica havent made one decent album since ''Kill Em All''.I beg to differ. Kill 'Em All is my all-time favorite Metallica album but to say that K'EA is their only decent album, or they haven't had a decent album since, is ridiculous. What about Lightning? Or MoP? Justice? All fantastic albums. Fantastic. Heck, even TBA is decent, sure, not fantastic, but still decent.Anyway, good to see Megadeth and Metallica share the stage together, eh? moreblack
saw their set from Rock In Rio 2010, and they sounded like they had an off night. Hope the DVD is better, new guy struggled with the Marty leads, and Dave's voice was kinda hilarious.
eschman
Set the World Afire was my first fav metal song.Compare their Anarchy in the U.K. to the Crue's.....crystallizes the problems with Motley.
Guest Apollo
I love older Megadeth. Dave's voice is awesome.I always thought that if he wanted to, Dave could have been an incredible rock singer. And they always have great guitar work on all the albums. Marty Friedman is a pretty good shredder.I always also thought that Train of Consequences should have been a huge rock hit. I absolutely love that album, so many good songs. If you dont really know the band, this is a great album to check out. It's heavy, great guitar, but also some more melodic songs and radio friendly songs. And my favorite Megadeth song.............even though it's not their most famous...........but how can you not love it? American Psycho
Youthanasia is a amazing album! My personal favorite from that album is ''Reckoning Day'' Marty is one of the best guitarist's in metal, yet he is one of the most underrated.. doesnt get enough credit..
