The Sandman
With Teeth is probably my favourite - particularly "Hand That Feeds"
Spoon87
I never managed to get into NIN... I like Johnny Cash's "Hurt" if that counts for anything.
inthisriver
I was fortunate enough to see Trent and Co. play this live on the "Wave Goodbye" Tour in '09. Also in other NIN related news: http://nin.com/?id=97906 I was planning on taking some time off after the continual waves of touring that ended last fall and spend this year experimenting around with what would become How To Destroy Angels and some new NIN. Well, that plan didn't work out so well. David Fincher started inquiring about my interest in scoring his upcoming film, The Social Network. Yeah, the movie about the founding of Facebook. I've always loved David's work but quite honestly I wondered what would draw him to tell that story. When I actually read the script and realized what he was up to, I said goodbye to that free time I had planned. Atticus Ross and I have been on a creative roll so I asked him if he wanted to work on this with me and we signed on.Months later, I'm happy to tell you we're nearing the completion of this and I couldn't be happier with how it's turned out. The level of excellence that David operates on is inspiring and the entire process has been challenging and truly enjoyable. As Atticus and I near the end of the scoring process, we're looking forward to the next phase - distilling the large amount of music we've written for this down to a satisfying record (or two). The film opens Oct 1 in the US with the record likely available a couple of weeks ahead of that.Speaking of the film... it's really fucking good. And dark! Can't wait. dalsh327
That is probably true. I only got to go to the tours in recent years but they were incredible. They actually manage to recreate the sound really well live in addition to all the mental stuff Trent was putting onstage. It didn't take away from the excitement of the show either, which is always a risk with elaborate lights at a rock show, just added to each song. Like that ridiculous bit where his face comes up massive in red lights on the screen infront of the band. Also, in the few shows I went to I saw a massive array of songs which is always a plus. And saw Gary Numan. Good stuff.I think the way he left NIN off was the right way to bring an end to it. His music output is far from drying up, but you can tell once he sobered up he wanted to get to play as many live shows as possible and put as much music out as much as possible before 2010, so he could devote time to raising a family and be able to create new music when he wants without an expectation of a tour. Not sure if he's going to write much for Mariqueen or just stay in the background, but I'm sure there's going to be some songs that he writes that she'll sing... stuff that never would've fit as a NIN song. Some husband/wife teams work great, some fail. I'm pretty sure this might also mean he's going to revamp "Closure" or come up with something that covers the past 20 years of NIN, a band that has been well documented since the beginning (and even pre NIN bands). dalsh327
NIN touring isn't completely over, and Trent knows it.He made comments about not wanting to jump around on stage anymore. He's mentioned doing some more stuff like he did at Bridge School and tour under his own name in theaters. He has been performing live since the mid 80s and the physical energy he puts into a NIN show can only last so long, when someone is in their 40s and toured as much as he did over the past decade, you could tell he had an end goal. Get out to as many people as possible while he's still young enough to do it and has the energy to do it night after night. He's also seen all the BS artists do their farewell tours and come back for the big buck sponsorships.... and even Bowie has pulled off some sellout moments through his career but he's managed to keep his artistic credibility intact somehow. I'm sure Trent's talked to everyone from Danny Elfman to Mark Mothersbaugh to Bowie and Eno about directions he can go in. He's never worked just on NIN. Now this allows more room to work on that other stuff, and should guarantee that we won't see him on TMZ stumbling down Sunset Blvd at 2 AM with Kim Kardashian. Or Courtney Love. I can see him putting his energy into producing artists who have the energy to get out on the road and put out killer shows, while he gets to play with his kids at the end of the day. 25 years? He def. earned that right, and I like that he's going to focus on being a husband and a dad the way he focused on his music. And keep in mind, his parents split up when he was pretty young. Sounds coolUhmm...It's been available for a while...And it looks pretty neat.NIN was my favourite band from 2000 to 2008 ( guess why ). But I can't listen to anything post-Fragile anymore...Didn't like the direction he went in with With Teeth. Liked Year Zero because of the noisy stuff on it and thought Ghosts I-IV wasn't going anywhere despite having some great jams on it.The last album...I'd rather not say anything about it. American Psycho
Great band, when you have a depression i dont think theres a better band then NIN, anyway, Trent is a fucking genius recording everything himself, that man is a legend, hope Trent will tour under the name NIN with Robin & Josh Freese, from what ive seen / heard they are concidered to be one of the best live bands.
