I don't think he cares much (anymore), don't worry about it. You may get it taken off you by the venue, but you're not going to fuck up the show.

Oh, enjoy the show!

I don't think there's a problem with taking some pictures with your mobile phone, but sometimes the venue will clamp down on this. I think the problem arises when people are filming the entire show.

The guys at the door bitched about cameras, but I (and about 95% of the people) managed to sneak a camera in and Axl really didn't care.

He looked right into my camera at one point and even smiled. Hahaha.

It's all cool.

Phone cameras are crappy, take an actual camera. Just hide it somewhere or hide the batteries in case the venue is a pain in the ass.

He wants people to experience the show, but he's gotten over people recording the show. I think the incident 20 years ago where he jumped into the audience trying to get the camera was a whole different time, and was just high strung that entire tour that anything and everything set him off. It's also not wanting to get ripped off by someone you didn't choose to be there, that's going to make money off of you. He's going "that f--khead's going to sell that photo and make money off of me! I already hired someone to take quality photos". But that was a different time. Everyone wants a document of the show they've been to, and it's finally gotten to the point of artists putting out "authorized bootlegs". But it's the ones who usually have a radically different setlist night after night, and the technology's good enough to allow for a digital copy within hours. And if fans want to share the shows they've been to, I think it's great. Band made money, people get to collect the shows of the tour. If the setlist is more or less going to stay the same, is there a point to putting it out, or wait for the live CD at a later time?

I think the past GNR shows that they have in the archives should be available to fans. The only problem would be the cover songs and might have to edit if some songwriter chose not to allow it.

Most bands don't want to be blinded by flashes. If someone's taking pics and the flash keeps going off, it's messing with their eyes. That's why the venue usually tries to enforce a no video/no cameras (but they've allowed disposables for a while)/ no recording equipment policy.

But when they've played those small gigs, he didn't tell people to stop recording/filming, but people should stick to recording one or two songs and put it away to enjoy the rest of it. David Lee Roth had someone hand over their cell phone.. and stuck it in his pants, and got some Roth ball sweat when he handed it back to them (a female). Prob. up on You Tube - the San Diego show.

I don't really get why it is important for people to film the concerts..

For me it is much more important to have a great time, sing along to the songs together with my friends etc..

Sure I filmed a song at the concert I was to this summer, but that was only to have some kind of film as a memory in the future :)

I just think You will have more fun, not thinking about filming songs.. :)

I love it. It could have been more focused, but... maybe next time. :)

At least the others were.

Because they want proof they were there, they want a document of the show. Some people bring high end equipment in to record shows, but as of late that's less about trying to make money than it is collecting the shows and sharing them amongst fans in other cities. There's old boots I have from years ago that were so-so and now the source tapes are up on the 'net. Now if someone buys a bootleg, they post it everywhere for everyone to hear, but I've seen stuff that's been sold in stores that I know for a fact were created and shared by the fanbase, and some douche slapped a cover on it and sold it for 20-50 bucks.

I think Elton and Pearl Jam are now clearing cover songs before the tour so they can put them out on the "authorized bootlegs". To me, as much as I like a live recording, the full length shows almost always trump what the artist picked and chose for people to hear. Even though it was a lot of work to find the best version of such and such a song, or sometimes have to resort to studio shortcuts to "reproduce" moments. KISS "Alive" is alleged to be more studio than live. In the case of Genesis, Peter Gabriel in 1990-something rerecorded his vocals for a live show from 1974.-1975, but it was for a few songs where he wore a costume that muffled his voice.
