Vincent Vega Posted August 31, 2010 Posted August 31, 2010 It's always been my opinion that the strongest songs of New Guns are the ones with the industrial/danceable bent, or a grungy bent."Oh My God" and "Shackler's" are imo the best new GN'R songs, along with Chinese D (the song) and Rhiad. They're the strongest musically AND lyrically, and they seem the most ''alive''--Whereas songs in the older style like Street of Dreams seem somehow forced. I hope, instead of ballads or attempting to do old GN'R style song that the next album is all hard rocking, angry Industrial rock songs. But that's just me. Axl seems to be better now at hard rocking songs than ballads, whereas with the old band, he was the ballad master and the other guys were best at the harder rocking songs. It's ironic too because I actually like VR's ballads more than new GN'R's, but I like new GN'R's harder tracks better than VR's.Anyone else want more Industrial on the next record?
RocketKing99 Posted August 31, 2010 Posted August 31, 2010 Yeah... I would like to see some more OMG/Silkworms kind of stuff.
Jackie Moon Posted August 31, 2010 Posted August 31, 2010 (edited) ive been listening to oh my god a lot in the last few days, i rediscovered it. i love it. silkworms is really good too. shacklers, riad, omg, silkworms, there is a thread there and i like it. axl said CDII would be darker, i hope this is what he ment.when i really got into GNR (03) i made a mix CD with all my favorite songs. jungle, nightrain, ect. looking back i played oh my god more than anything. its kind of rough, but like silkworms, i at least like the idea of oh my god. i like this direction axl is heading and i think there is more in store. ColdHeartBreaker Posted August 31, 2010 Posted August 31, 2010 One thing I've noticed since we're talking about Oh My God, where's the highest quality version? Wasn't there a CD end of days soundtrack? The mp3 that gets thrown around everywhere feels a bit "rough" and too low for my liking.
Vincent Vega Posted August 31, 2010 Author Posted August 31, 2010 (edited) Personally I'd love an album with angry Industrial rock songs, Axl piano pieces (think of the intros he did to November Rain on the UYI tour--that sort of stuff), with some raw acoustic ballads. I really want to hear really deep, tortured piano focused songs if he's gonna do ballads. Edited August 31, 2010 by MetalForever
Todo Poderoso Timão Posted August 31, 2010 Posted August 31, 2010 I'd love to, since Robin and Bucket rejoin.
Sweersa Posted August 31, 2010 Posted August 31, 2010 Apparently the early CD stuff that was mostly scrapped was industrial.
Jackie Moon Posted August 31, 2010 Posted August 31, 2010 Apparently the early CD stuff that was mostly scrapped was industrial.it will be risen. like my pants.
Rovim Posted August 31, 2010 Posted August 31, 2010 (edited) ive been listening to oh my god a lot in the last few days, i rediscovered it. i love it. silkworms is really good too. shacklers, riad, omg, silkworms, there is a thread there and i like it. axl said CDII would be darker, i hope this is what he ment.when i really got into GNR (03) i made a mix CD with all my favorite songs. jungle, nightrain, ect. looking back i played oh my god more than anything. its kind of rough, but like silkworms, i at least like the idea of oh my god. i like this direction axl is heading and i think there is more in store.Agreed. Oh My God worked. It was heavy, dark and Axl's vocal delivery was very powerful. The industrial direction was the original planned sound, mixed with epic scoped ballads all still retaining the mechanics of the old Guns sound.I think Oh My God was a success in that regard, joined by the epics (There Was A Time and Catcher) and a hybrid of old and new with Better. I think the '99 Chinese Democracy and CD2 were supposed to really showcase the industrial sound Axl had in his head for so long.I hope we'll hear part 2 before the current members give us their take of a modern Guns album because as much as I love the newest line up, It's more of a 'retro' band and that's cool too, as I believe in what they can do in the studio with Bumble onboard. It's just Bucket and Robin contributions were too amazing in Chinese Democracy to not hear part 2 of that work. Cdlove Posted August 31, 2010 Posted August 31, 2010 (edited) For most of the industrial tracks, which usually would be up my alley since I grew up being the biggest NiN fan, is a little lackluster for me. OMG and Silkworms are really nice and powerful songs, but I wouldnt listen to them every day.As for Shacklers and CD, I think the crunchy, heavy, rocky rhythm section from Bumble made it much better than the strict industrial tracks. Jakey Styley Posted August 31, 2010 Posted August 31, 2010 I believe the exact opposite of every single thing you said.
Boo Posted August 31, 2010 Posted August 31, 2010 Industrial, no. It would be the last nail in the coffin for Axl and the boys. Also, it would be hard to get the old G n' R sound back with the new musicians, as they each have their own style. But, i think that bringing back a raw sound, (less overlay, with more concerntration on the guitars, drums, ect) would revive the intencity of the music. Axl's voice is a powerful tool. All he needs is an "in your face", raw and powerful backing track to complete the songs.Don't get me wrong. I'm not saying that CD was a poor album. It just sounded to technical for my full liking with not enough of an adrenalin rush from the music.
DocBrown Posted August 31, 2010 Posted August 31, 2010 Definitely not. They have gone back to being a killer rock band. Just listen to how much better the CD songs sound live when they are played like heavy rock songs. I think Oh my god, Silkworms, and My World are the worst GNR songs.

It isn't mixed that clearly, but that's probably how it was supposed to sound.

Sweersa Posted August 31, 2010 Posted August 31, 2010 Yes the official OMG we got not only was a demo, it was mastered poorly, look at the insane death magnetic wave form.
J Dog Posted August 31, 2010 Posted August 31, 2010 I like their current sound. But I would love to hear the stuff from the OMG days.
CheapJon Posted August 31, 2010 Posted August 31, 2010 gimme aggressive sheyot, don't care if it's industrial or not
FuddMckagan Posted August 31, 2010 Posted August 31, 2010 I think it would be interesting to see what else is there in terms of the more industrial sounding stuff, but personally I think Axl should go with more piano stuff. Axl and a piano is always good. (Well most of the time, at least)
moreblack Posted August 31, 2010 Posted August 31, 2010 Why not? it's been a while, they can at least bang out one or 2 in that kind of style...
