Tommy Stinson at The Vatican

Pope Ratz banned guitar playing in the Vatican, and thinks rock music is the work of the devil. They used to have Christmas pop festivals, which Ratzman put an end to. Back when he was just Cardinal Ratz, he tried to stop Bob Dylan from playing and singing (although some people would've been happy with that decision), but obviously Pope John Paul II overrode him (and odds are he prob. thought Bono was a mistake, even though he's Catholic). I'm sure he wouldn't be too fond of Guitar Player and Rock Band.

Read that bible sometime. You'll think of it as anything but being a good book. Love thy neighbor unless they're Philistines, then feel free to do what you want to them. Craziest book I've ever read.

This is from the London Times, mid 1990s...

ONE of the Roman Catholic world's most powerful figures has branded rock music an "instrument of the Devil" and urged young people not to listen to it for fear of

endangering their souls.

Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger, head of the modern successor to the Inquisition, said there were "diabolical and satanic messages" in much of today's heavy metal music.

But he also warned the young against the "subliminal"satanic influence to be found in songs by such groupsas the Beatles, the Rolling Stones, Pink Floyd, Queen,

Led Zeppelin and the Eagles.

Cardinal Ratzinger, Prefect of the Congregration for the Doctrine of the Faith, is considered the highest moral authority in the Vatican after the Pope, at whose

side he has been for almost all of the latter's 18-year reign. His stern admonishment and even excommunication of dissident theologians has earned him a fearsome

reputation.

Speaking yesterday at a Mass marking the feast of St Cecilia, the patron saint of music, Cardinal Ratzinger agreed that there were many good things in modern pop

music, but added that there was also a great deal that "endangers the human soul". He urged heavy metal bands in particular to "purify themselves".

Vatican officials identified some of the "worst offenders" as Alice Cooper, Black Sabbath and AC/DC,whose initials they claimed referred not to alternating

current or even bisexuality, but to the satanic phrase "Anti-Christ, Death to Christ".

Wow, that's cool! Great place to visit, Tommy!

Maybe he went to see "The School of Athens", too? He must have, as it's kinda on the way to the Sistine Chapel, which is where he is in the picture that he's posted there, if I'm not mistaken.

Rock music is the devil but it's OK for the systematic fucking of children?? Must have missed that part in the Bible.

Of course, protecting those individuals from public scrutiny is A-OK, but listening to Back In Black means you're a terrible person and are going straight to eternal damnation.

What don't we know? I guess those out of court settlements aren't an admission of guilt.

If the pope thinks the Beatles are Satan's work, what will he think about slipknot?

And yeah, I also thought The Vatican was that hot new club.
