I'm just curious what everyone's idea of what Sabbath should do next is. Tony and Geezer have said that Heaven And Hell can't continue with anyone in place of Dio. IMO, another Ozzy reunion would be the worst thing they could do at this point in their career, Ozzy is absolutely pathetic on stage, and they'll only fall back into the habit of playing the same 75 minute, 10 song setlists which never change up from year-to-year. I've been listening to Seventh Star and Eternal Idol A LOT over the past few weeks following those deluxe reissues, and I must admit, I'm really excited to see what either Hughes or Martin could bring to Sabbath again, both in terms of live shows and new material. If I had to pick between them, I think I'd have to say I'd prefer to see Glenn Hughes step back in. His performance at High Voltage Fest with H&H sounded AWESOME, and if he can nail the Dio songs live, he could cover all eras for sure. I also think it would be interesting to hear him try to do a more traditional metal album with Tony/Geezer/Bill than Seventh Star was.

What are everyone else's thoughts?

Thought this was a thread about me at first.

EDIT (here comes my Ozzy support):

Ozzy is not pathetic on stage anymore by any means. When I went to his first three states shows in the beginning of December, two of the shows were over 2 hours, which Ozzy used to never do, and is now quite the common thing for him. He brought back a lot of classics that I, along with plenty of others, are very grateful of him doing. He really does pout his all into every show he does, regardless of the ridicule people give him. Sure, maybe he can't sing the songs as great as he could 10-20 years ago, but he really does put his all into just about every song he does live. And for fuck's sake, who could at 62? Especially after all of the shit Ozzy has been through in his life, he does extremely well, and I will stand by that until the day I die.

Also, when he was on stage with Sabbath in the earlier 2000's, he was great.

I don't know how you could think that reuniting with Ozzy would be the worst thing to do? And that questions comes from a fan and logical standpoint.

People want to see BLACK SABBATH live. Not BLACK SABBATH with Ian Gillan, Glenn Hughes, or Tony Martin. If they reunited with any of those people, it would be extremely dumb.

Fan or not, I believe that if Black Sabbath got back together, they could do an extremely great album. And if they didn't do an album, a tour would be the next great thing.

Not sure about the album part, but an Ozzy Sabbath reunion would be huge.

Those songs are average at best when compared to the good Sabbath stuff. If that's the best that came out of the 98 sessions, I don't think there would have been a very good album.

The irony is strong coming from you, whose avatar is Axl.

dumbcardi

EDIT: Lolzers

Well no shit they're average compared to the self titled, and Paranoid and Master of Reality. They aren't going to come close to recreating those, you jackass. But for the times now, if they released an album with songs sounding like those two, it would be great. Now stfu, person.

I def. think it's possible for Glenn to work with Tony and Geezer again, but Black Country Communion sounds like the bigger focus for him. It's gotten a lot of favorable reviews, and the way the music industry is, he's going to ride it.

I think Black Sabbath's hinted at doing live shows in the future, and once the Ozzfest tour comes up, maybe they'll do it then, or they'll have some sort of update by then.

In all fairness, the Tony Martin era was highly successful, maybe even more so than the Dio era (If not as memorable). Tony Martin has the second longest stand as vocalist in Sabbath, and I think a fair few people would back a reunion with him.

Tony's said the biggest problem with the '97-'05 Sabbath shows were that Ozzy was NEVER open to changing up the setlist. They had x number of songs which they learned when doing the shows in '97, and songs were gradually cut from that. If I recall correctly, the ONLY songs added after '97 were Under The Sun and Scary Dreams, both of which were only played a handful of times. I might be more open to the idea of an Ozzy reunion if they'd mix up the setlist, at least from tour-to-tour. I mean, when I saw Sabbath in '05, the ONLY song that wasn't off of the first 3 albums was Dirty Women.

As a fan of all Sabbath singers, I'd like to see 3 things: Someone who can still sing live, a decent album, and setlist variety. There's so much Sabbath material that doesn't get played live, and unless they reunite with Gillan, Hughes, or Martin, none of it will ever be played again.

I def. think it's possible for Glenn to work with Tony and Geezer again, but Black Country Communion sounds like the bigger focus for him. It's gotten a lot of favorable reviews, and the way the music industry is, he's going to ride it.

If by "hinted at live shows" you mean "Bill Ward has said 'maybe we'll do some shows next year' like he has every year since 2006", then yes, they have.

As I said, Ozzy is more open to playing songs he hasn't done in a long time. I mean, who would have thought that he would have brought back songs like Shot In The Dark, Killer of Giants, and even I Just Want You for a few songs? I think he would be a lot more open now, and as I said, he's been prone to playing for longer periods of time lately.

You may be right, I think Iommi may have used his last great riffs on The Devil You Know.

Iommi will NEVER run out of great riffs.
