axl_on_drums Posted March 10, 2011 Posted March 10, 2011 I remember a quote saying something like, for the longest time new GNR were just writing instrumentally, Axl had no little to no lyrics written. So I was flicking through Slash's book and he says something similar. Axl was a perfectionist with his lyrcis and he was slow on delivering the words. Coma took foever to write.Personally I think a lot of the music for a CD follow up is just taggeed "piece 3" or whatever. I doubt any lyrics have been wirtten. We are fools and cupcakes for thinking songs a sitting in the vault 100% done.
Black Horse Posted March 10, 2011 Posted March 10, 2011 That is only your opinion, we have no idea of what the man does or has done, whether he´s written tons of lyrics or not. He could have written thousands of lyrics and you wouldn´t know.
ColdHeartBreaker Posted March 10, 2011 Posted March 10, 2011 (edited) Axl explained why the song Atlas Shrugged was titled that simply because of a lyric along the lines of shoulders not being wide enough to carry something. He said this in the Dexter chats. Brain revealed something about Thyeme as well a while back, something about it being a ballad.I'm going off memory here. Edited March 10, 2011 by MoonWalker
Mal'Akh Posted March 10, 2011 Posted March 10, 2011 Well, if you have almost 30 superb songs in the vault waiting to be launched, why write new stuff?
Black Horse Posted March 10, 2011 Posted March 10, 2011 Well, if you have almost 30 superb songs in the vault waiting to be launched, why write new stuff?Because artists create/compose all the time, whether their work is released or not.

Steamboat Posted March 10, 2011 Posted March 10, 2011 Hey black horse, is your sig from one of the tommy stinson backstage videos?
Nick85 Posted March 10, 2011 Posted March 10, 2011 (edited) I often wonder if this is the reason he's dragging his heals about putting the next album out. I mean after he puts out the rest of the unreleased CD Era tracks, what's realistically gonna happen next? I really don't know. Edited March 10, 2011 by sofine11

axl666 Posted March 10, 2011 Posted March 10, 2011 I think the person who said that was Moby in relation to working withAxl in 1998. Axl must have written a good deal of lyrics since (i.e. the entire CD album)

If that's the case, sorry, but you're wrong.Atlas Shrugged was described sometimes, and it looks nothing like Scraped. And, just for the record, Scraped working titles was "Lies They Tell" and "They Were Lying".
sweetness Posted March 10, 2011 Posted March 10, 2011 (edited) Doubt it. He may not have ALL of them written but I'm sure he has AT LEAST a decent body of work completed outside of CD. That old checkmate bit is really our only evidence, but I find it much harder to believe that checkmate is only one of a few completed songs we haven't entirely heard, that's a pretty old song, there's gotta be more. star Posted March 10, 2011 Posted March 10, 2011 maybe he has, maybe he hasn't. One thing is for sure: Until something new n' official shows up, these boards are kinda over with.

tange Posted March 10, 2011 Posted March 10, 2011 For the last time. Axl confirmed 12 songs. None of them were songs that are already released. End of story. Atlas is not scraped. Riad is not Oklahoma. Catcher is not oklahoma. Oklahoma is Berlin. Berlin is not Riad. Thus Oklahoma is not Riad. under the same logic Catcher is not Oklahoma. Focker out!

Ghost_Guns Posted March 10, 2011 Posted March 10, 2011 Wasn't it in 02 in Japan where he talked about what we were going to "get" on CD? I can't remember the full quote but I believe it ended with "and a few extra tracks". This obviously changed...

I can't remember the full quote but I believe it ended with "and a few extra tracks". This obviously changed...Think it was London 2002.He said we were gonna get about 18 tracks, plus 10 bonus tracks...tour for a bit, release another album with a similar amount of tracks....tour for a while..then stop and finish work on a third album. Fair do's those were probably only ever tentative plans
axl_on_drums Posted March 10, 2011 Author Posted March 10, 2011 With this thread I was really only adressing the idea that there is two albums worth of Material at the ready, I doubt they even have one.Obviously some songs we are aware of went unused for CD on purpose, Checkmate etc..I think GNR have a very small amount of complete songs at their disposal...Or I could be 100% wrong lol, just filibustering
Black Sabbath Posted March 10, 2011 Posted March 10, 2011 There are plenty of finished songs in a Axl's vault with lyrics. We know those. Don't split the hairs.Songs that are actually "future" material (not CD-era leftovers)? Who knows?

Chan is not the general. the general is not checkmate so there fuckers. Also, Beta's barn is not a song.
Trilogy Posted March 10, 2011 Posted March 10, 2011 That is only your opinion, we have no idea of what the man does or has done, whether he´s written tons of lyrics or not. He could have written thousands of lyrics and you wouldn´t know.^ THIS^ ,and in addition to be perfectly honest I don't think anyone cares about your ungrounded speculations about something you couldn't possibly know, people that write usually continue to do just that, its a drive,a passion,an outlet for pent up emotional chaos, really don't understand, nor care to what prompted and motivated you to start a topic like this, useless guesswork, unecessary crumbs of shit on the table aren't needed nor appreciated.

FuddMckagan Posted March 11, 2011 Posted March 11, 2011 I would be surprised if he didn't have lyrics to at least 5 or 6 songs. "There's 2 or 3 albums worth of songs ready to go" I doubt they would be ready to go if they had no vocals on them.
