sofine11
So we are now well aware of the shitstorm that followed all the rumors swirling around about the state of the band, the next album, U.S. tour etc. This recently reached a head when Axl's lawyers contacted this website threatening this, his biggest fansite, with legal action if they did not remove all mention of said rumors. A lot of this has caused an undeniable love-hate relationship between the fans and Axl. With that in mind, I started thinking, so much of this silliness & drama could have been avoided if Axl simply communicated with his fans and kept us even somewhat up to snuff about what we can expect from the band over the years. So many times over the years we've been left in the dark when we needed clarifcation the most from Axl. Here's what I could come up with...2002 - Axl refusing to explain to the fans why the tour which ended with people getting hurt at the Philly riot was cancelled. No apologies, nothing.2002 - Axl telling the fans that CD would consist of 18 songs with the next two albums being release of the following 2 years while the band toured throughout. Never happened - no explanation to fans.2004 - Early April, Buckethead leaving press release. "We hope to announce a release date within the next few months." Never happened, no explanation. Didn't hear from the guy for another two years.2006 - In regards to the tentative release date of March 6th "If we are delayed for unseen reasons you will also be notified as soon as possible in regard to a new date and the album will be released as shortly thereafter as is possible." March 6th came and went and we didn't here from Axl Rose until the Axl chats two years later AFTER the release that he was completely MIA for.2008 - In regards to the Better video, during the chats: "Soon as in a week or so." Came and went, no explanation from Axl. Three weeks later regarding the Lars issue "We hope to have our video out shortly." Never released. No explanation.2008 - During the chats a seemingly enthusiastic Axl hinted at a possible "same bat time same bat channel next year" for the next album. 3 months later - Fans expecting the new album soon are now called "Idiots that have been around forever." When's the next album? "Don't know & Dont Care" With no word on the next album from Axl since. 2009 - Videos to fans: Got tons of questions from excited fans...Nada. No explanation. Took Ron a fucking year to give us his version of why it didn't happen, mentioning that he's not even sure why it didn't happen.2011 - Having his lawyers threaten his biggest fansite if they do not remove any and all mention of band rumors started by MSL.So what do you think? Has Axl damaged his relationship with his fans? Edited April 1, 2011 by sofine11
Young_Gun
Yes. Also, don't forget "we will be back here next summer with a whole bunch of new songs!". Edited April 1, 2011 by Young_Gun

The Wicked Hand
Yes.... He has definately lost many fans throughout the years. He either does it on purpose or just is incapable of explaining himself. But some posters on this forum state they like no communication, being misled, no music etc. and refer to them as shenanigans... I don't understand this but some people enjoy being abused....

Mal'Akh
Yeah. It shows Axl's relationship with the fans can be good and beatiful when he wants. Axl is a good person. Edited April 1, 2011 by Mal'Akh
Drakestar
he's great with the fans as long as you are outside of North America. Ya, there is the odd interaction in North America, but they are few and far between.maybe it's because these other countries have genuine fans that love him first...what do North American fans do first? They BASH him. Can't blame the guy for appreciating where the love is coming from.

Janis
Bumblefoot said that the only music he sees coming out is old songs recorded years ago with Bucket and Finck etc.. He confirmed that the current lineup sadly hasn't been in the studio together. To me that says that nothing is being worked on or planned at the moment. Axl only twitters when he's out there performing. I think he's still on vacation! He strongly felt the need to tweet Happy Vday tho which is the last thing he's said so he's possibly still alive! Stro
Anyone who is a fan of Axl after the past 15 years is probably going to be one for life. And all it really takes is an awesome performance and all the negativity melts away, at least for that short time. I'd like to think that fans of his/new band(s) know how it all operates by now and accepted it a long time ago.

This is in Townsville, Australia. Definetly not the US. Looks like the fans were "appreciating" him but he definitely was not all smiles. What's your logic there? This is definitely not an isolated incident either. Edited April 1, 2011 by Young_Gun
Kosonen
"So what do you think? Has Axl damaged his relationship with his fans?"no. we are still here. Axl is god, he can do whatever he wants not to. I follow. Its been 13 years, still here....messiah. It was great to see the man live last summer, hes not crucified yetfor any other band I like....this all would be totally ridiculous BS. actually I hope Axl would just quit, and let us know. its great time to quit now.....it was awesome 2010 tour etc..CD is done. Janis
For Gods sake if he just would do a real on camera interview I will be a fan for life and never complain on here again! I prefer listening to him talk than perform most of the time! ha
ronartest2004
I do think Axl realizes that the fan base is where the bread and butter is. But I also think he could give 2 shits about telling the fans something and then turning around and doing something completely different. I do think that there certain ways to approach Axl about things, and I don't think that those ways are being demanding or telling him what he is going to do. So let's say he tells us "I will put out a new album on....." and then some suit comes along and tells him or beta "along with putting out this album you are going to do a rolling stone interview, be a guest on a few nationally syndicated radio programs...and you will do all of this on time..." I can see Axl saying "fuck this" and just doing his own thing for awhile. And in the mean time release dates come and go. They do some shows, a few rumors pop up here and there. And the years go on and everyone gets older. Kinda sucks, but Axl really doesn't owe anything to me. He's given me some of the greatest music ever, so hopefully I can hear more of it someday. And if not, well there isn't much I can do about it.
bigcountry
Sure he has lost some fans and on the other side of the coin he has gained some.I hate the times of not hearing anything for years at a time but I am sure most of us have left people hanging at one time or another, so why is that any different???He really don't owe us anything. He is a private person, maybe to private but that is his right.

If you keep going to a butcher wanting lamb and he keeps saying it will be in tomorrow, and its never in, do you not have the right to be discontent? Sure he doesn't "owe" us lamb, but doesn't mean we have to be all smiles about it.

Almost everyone i talk to about Guns N' Roses do NOT have good things to say about Axl Rose. And these guys are in the 30s and 40s, some in their 50s. ronartest2004
Yeah but you also gotta think, all of those people had other bands they liked and they don't care about anymore. Think about all the stone fans back in the day who would run to the store to buy the records when they came out, what happened? They got old and had families, or got other interests. I mean, hell when I was a teenager music was my world and that's all I gave a shit about, but as I've gotten older I've gotten married and had a son. My priorities are with them, not with bands.Guns n roses has a huge fan base, which can be seen with how many Facebook friends the gnr page has and how many people are on here. I just think that so many people put so much emotional stock into things outside of their grasp that when things don't go the way they want them to then they get pissed. I don't care if someone calls Axl a dick, or doesn't like gnrs music, because I don't know Axl or anyone in gnr. But I do like the music, and when they release music I buy it and listen to it and play it for friends, at the end of the day that's the closest to the band/Axl that I'll ever be. Hell, one old school Guns fan at work hasn't even heard one song of Chidem but has heard By the Sword(which sucks) and Back to Cali by Slash... ronartest2004
I get what you're saying. But a lot of the "old school" gnr fans I talk to tell me that they quit listening to gnr after "lies". And yes, you will hear more slash songs on the radio because he has been on every radio station in the past year lol. And he does songs with a lot of mainstream artists, so he's out there more so he's fresher on people's minds. But even the people who loved afd, lies, uyi etc.... You gotta think, that was around 20 years ago, a lot changes from then and now. But I'm sure if you compared gnr tour numbers to metallicas over the past 10 years the attendance would be close to the same. But having said that, I'm sure a lot of people are still into bands they listened to when they were kids. But I highly doubt they are making threads about "wonder if Lars eats breakfast?". The people making those type threads are not the ones who were at the ritz 88, I am almost certain of that.
