TombRaider
I don't think he ever tried to be Cliff. He was a fan before joining the band. So I guess he must've known he was trying to fill some big shoes and trying to outdo Cliff would've been a huge mistake. What I always liked about Jason was that he was so into the band. You could tell he was really into the music, he is really metal and you gotta have that in a band. I don't think Trujillo fits in Metallica. He doesn't look the part, from my point of view at least, and he's not as passionate as Jason was. Jason is as metal as can be and that's what Metallica needs. This pic says it all
bacardimayne
It's win/win to me. With Jason you have the badass image and backing vocals. With Rob you have the Cliff songs played the way they should be played and more interesting setlists. No complaining either way from me. TombRaider
I see what you mean. I guess being the bass player in Metallica must be a really difficult job. I don't think they've ever gotten over losing Cliff and that's part of the reason Jason never quite felt at home and that's maybe the reason why James was unwilling to let Jason do a side project. If Lars or Kirk had wanted to, he'd have probably said yes. He was always the new kid, even if he'd been in Metallica for such a long time. And you know, what Kirk said about Jason in Some Kind of Monster, you know, about Whiplash not having been played like that since Cliff, when Trujillo auditioned, that was a stab in the back. I mean, what are you talking about Kirk? Maybe Jason couldn't play it exactly like Cliff did, but then again, why is that even so important? I saw them live in 92 and they kicked ass. I don't know. I just think Jason has the skills and the right attitude. Metallica needs a huge dose of metalness.
