Bach was on That Metal Show (most recent one) and was hilarious as usual. Said Axl has helped him immensely in the music business, which we all knew. Trunk & the guys ask if it's OK to talk about him touring with GnR, and Bach says ofcourse....what do ya wanna know. Unfortunately they gave him about 30 seconds before moving on. Woulda been great if they did a few minutes of Q & A. Anyways Bach said about Axls tardiness "he's getting his pipes ready.....it's not like he's laying on couch watching TV". Basically he was saying Axl is prepping himself for the show vocally....he won't go onstage until his "pipes" are ready. We all know it's total BS, but ofcourse Trunk & the guys weren't gonna hammer dive deeper into the topic. None the less, fun interview. Woulda loved more Axl questions as Bach would have gone on & on as dude loves his own voice.

Axl never attempts to sing shacklers unless his voice is 100% spot on for it, so if you get shacklers you know your in for a good night, its totally reasonable and understandable that , that is the reason as to why he's late starting...

Remember the hammerstein warm up shows, he lost his voice after the 1st/2nd show...

Yes. The high chorus takes it´s toll on the vocal chords. But it´s good!

So then why doesn't he get to the venue a couple of hours earlier to give him more time to get prepared so that he is ready when NuGnR is supposed to start?

I have no issue with Axl wanting to be at his best when he hits the stage but he could start preparing earlier so he can hit the stage on time or close to on time........Mick Jagger goes through similar preparation but the Stones start their shows like clockwork. It is called being professional and be considerate to the audience who just ponyed up big $$$ to come see your show...Every other band can get on stage on time and Axl could to if he wanted to...........

This^^^^^ It doesn't take a rocket surgeon to realise that if you're continually starting shows 1-2 hours late every night because you need to prepare properly then it's maybe a good idea to start preparations 1-2 hours earlier to ensure the poor fuckers who found a babysitter and paid $$$ for the tickets don't have to leave halfway through the show to get home.

A very similar statement to this^^^ actually got me a life ban from HTGTH the night of the Reading Festival gig haha!

Maybe Axl needs to call Myles and get some advice on how he manages to get his vocal chords warmed up and ready to sing most of the same songs by 9 p.m each night without incident. Heck, he even manages to squeeze Civil War in which is notoriously tough on the voice.

well what constitutes "getting his pipes ready?"

Maybe it just means he's has to take a nap before he can perform. **shrugs**

Bach shouldn't defend something like this at all.

Axl's "I'm a rebel so I go to my shows late" antics are agonizingly 1) childish 2) unprofessional - why doesn't anyone else as major as him have the same problems? Because they don't have this "courtside rebelwarrior" thing going on. :( Getting his pipes ready really is a joke. You should find the time to warm up your vocal chords in good time so that you go on stage when you're supposed to. end of story and fuck all the explanations, especially coming from lapdogs like Bach.

Essentially Sebastian Bach is Axl's (George) Lennie (GN'R "Of Mice & Men" style).

the whole showing up late thing isnt too big of a deal for me if he shows up and puts on a 2 to 21/2 hr set of a kick ass rock show i dont care about him being late this has happend since the 1980's its rock n roll its not a 9-5 job where you punch in and punch

Axl goes on late because he likes to build up the tension, and then resolve it. Being late makes the resolution that much sweeter. Much like a guitarist who's soloing and builds up tension before resolving back to the root or the octave.

Y'know, really there's a simple solution for the lateness thing- just have a montage of rare GnR clips (like studio stuff, documentary type stuff, rare demos, jamming, goofing around, etc) playing on the jumbotron, keep the fans satiated. Er something.

That is an effing great idea. The nights Axl is playing games run videos, interviews, an ACDC concert video, Maiden, etc.....until he resolves his issue and hits stage. Why the eff didn't some promoter think of this long ago is beyond me.

It's a shame that the vast majority of the people who put Axl where he is do have 9-5 jobs and they're the ones who suffer by getting to see half a show when he can't be bothered to get on stage at a reasonable time. Some of the last UK gigs saw fans having to leave early because the last buses and trains were going to be long gone otherwise meaning they had choice of missing half the gig or sleeping on the streets . If you think that's "Rock and Roll" then fine. Personally I think it's just selfishness and douchebaggery! It's not cool to fuck your fans over no matter what you think and Axl's a dick for doing it, period!

We know it's BS??? How so, enlighten me please

Because anybody with half a brain knows that if he needs to get his "pipes" warmed up he could start earlier and start on time like every other singer of every other band in the world.

The fact that he's pulled this shit for over two decades says to anybody with a modicum of intelligence that that warming up the pipes story is bullshit.

Thank ya, although I'm prolly not the first person to conceive of it... I think. Haha.

The key here would be that the montage contains rare stuff: stuff that will keep fans' eyes glued to the screen as they lose track of time. And for GnR, it wouldn't even have to be anything super special- just rare or interesting from the fans' point of view. For example, the clip of Axl putting the KFC bucket on his head, singing a few lines, then kicking it back into the audience- that would be a great clip to throw in there. One important point would be that whatever montage was put together, it not find its way on to the internet. Or rather, the only copies of it on youtube should be shitty fans' cellphone videos or something. That way you keep it special and fresh for the fans in attendance.

You know for once I agree with you MS it is a great idea ...Since he considers the new band to be continuation of GnR why not show footage from all incarnations of the band as a warmup including the AFD, UYI and Buckethead versions......If he did that I would even go to a show if he ever tours the U.S. and would not mind waiting...or how about the band memebers get to come out and play some solo stuff until he is ready...I would sit through that also........

Even silly stuff like videos of the megaman bosses named after GnR members- that would be great filler until the band hits the stage. There are all sorts of easy things to throw in there.

Pretty soon, fans would be wanting Axl to hit the stage late so they could see the entire video. ; )

I cannot believe this discussion still comes up.

Axl is never late for any shows. If you go to the bar to see a couple of bands, the first one plays from 9 until 10 and the headliner plays from 11 until close (2am or so). This is the schedule he has kept since they became the headliner. Why is this so difficult to understand and accept? If the ticket says 8pm, that means 'stuff' starts around 8pm, it doesn't mean GnR starts at 8pm. The only time they go on earlier is because of stupid curfew in some podunk cities and most of the time Axl chooses to ignore those and pay whatever fines. Yes he has to get his pipes ready and yes he could start getting his pipes ready earlier, but that is not the reason they start late.

I love getting to a show and standing in the crowd between 8pm and 11:30pm and finding the people that are not hardcore fans and betting them that Guns won't take the stage until after 11:20pm. Wow, does it piss some off.

But here is the thing: if the ticket says the show starts at a certain time GNR should stay true to that. A little late is understandable but showing up over an hour late is ridiculous. People who attend are promised a certain time so they can make plans according to that and when gnr shows up 2 hours late it fucks up many peoples schedules.

If he tookt he stage within an hour or less after the wramup band left the stage you would have a point but I waited through several hour waits during the UYI and the couple of NuGnR shows I went to..

Going on stage 2+ hours after the warmup band leaves the stage is late mate and NuGnR is not playing in a bar where you have other things to do while waiting...........

1. If you are a real fan and know anything about the band, you know this happens.

2. It's not like it happens occasionally. It happens every show. It's the norm.

3. The show should be considered a night out on the town, not an evening out.

4. I know this is going to happen so I take the next day off. If you know it's gonna happen, you should do the same or you can pay the price at work. It's your choice.

5. That break between sets only builds more suspense. I love it. Go pee, get another drink, meet other fans.

When we buy a ticket we are buying a ticket into Axl's world for the night. We can either accept Axl's rules (which you should know going in) and have a good time, or complain.

Cheers!

Wow, good comeback. I'll go feel sad now because someone hiding behind their computer insulted me.
