James was just pissed about the whole "upstaged" thing at Montreal, and probably pissed about being called a racist so he decided to poke fun at Axl.

In the long run I dont think that video really shows the the true relationship between the two bands as according to Lars all members of Metallica love Chinese Democracy and Lars made a guest spot in OTGM in 06 in Oakland.

I don't get how anyone can say the band is "a mess" right now. They ended last year on an awesome tour. Few slip ups but they delivered countless kickass shows. Now they are taking a break from extensive touring and everyone thinks they are a mess just because they've read a bunch of rumours founded on nothing? Get some perspective. Many bands take time off between touring, you can expect instant gratification of a new album after each tour, especially when it's a band of GnR's size. Look at R.E.M., U2, ACDC, Metallica, hell even newer bands like Greenday. They release an album, tour extensively, take a break and don't tour until the next album. 4 years isn't that long of a wait between albums. It's just people expect instant gratification.

I just think that at times he can be an asshole too. But when I watched that first vid for the first time, I was really disappointed. I thought he knew better than to do things like that.

I don't think he was being an asshole, I mean.... It was Metallica on the peak of their commercial success, you don't expect Metallica to be the bunch of nice daddys they are now. However, he was messing with the guy who jumped on his fans to get a camera and told Kurt Cobain to shut his bitch up. He should know that even if this is nothing, it's gonna seriously piss Axl off. James messed with Slash too, there's a video with that, he was just like that, I don't think it's personal at all. And it must be pretty fun to piss Axl off.

I sure know that Metallica were not those nice guys they are now. And I miss that James Hetfield who used to be a drunk, rude, spitting and cursing motherfucker, who used to be like a nuclear blast on stage, but now is just like a grey-haired teddy bear. But I mean to say if you want to piss Axl off, if you're so pissed off about his rider or how he treats his fans, just go and say it straight to his face. Why do it behind his back like an old gossip?

bottom line is that this is a classic case of pot calling kettle black. when i was 18 or 19 i remember taking offense to james reading and bashing axl's rider. just take a look at metallica's rider, specifically on the binge and purge boxset and you'll see that there is really no difference between guns or axl's rider and metallica's. just a bunch of stuff that is on there just to be excessive. very over the top yet very normal in the realms of all superstars riders. no biggy.
