If GNR had a reunion... but with the 2001 line-up

Let's say GNR has a reunion, but not with the classic band but with the band that Axl had envisioned after original GNR broke up. Lemme just point out, before anything, that I love the new band and can't wait for what they have in store for us but I'm just speculating and was curious to yours/general publics opinion. Replacing DJ and Ron with Finck and Buckethead, Tobais instead of Fortus and Josh Freese on drums. I think it would be pretty sweet, I feel like they would develop their sound more rather than having to change it once we got DJ and Ron in. It would be interesting to see.

Nah, I wouldn't care. Of course, it would be fun to see them with that line-up, but I like this one. A lot! (I wouldn't mind seeing Josh Freese drumming with this line-up, though. But that's just because he's so great and awesome.) The chemistry of the 2001 line-up always seemed a little off. To me anyways, but then again I never saw them live. :shrugs:

Guess, I just love Fortus and Ashba too much :D

I had the privilege of seeing them live in 2001, and then again at Sturgis last year, and I have no preference for a reunion.

I have grown quite fond of Thal, and I would hate to see him leave the band.

No Thank You...Buckethead doing his solo gig in the middle of a GNR show and Fink doing his NIN stagework while butchering the hell out of GNR staples was confounding enough as it was..especially on the reintroduction of the mighty GNR jaugernaught..that promptly went no where and did nothing...was enough for me.

Possibly the 2006 version and stil that was marginally alright..

this line up...only way here is to go forward and get their own music..especially NEW classics material

I'd just want to hear the songs and stuff they came up with -

There really is no "band" anymore, and has been that way for quite some time. Who really cares what lineup there is playing the songs?

It really doesn't make a whole lot of sense or difference to me, who exactly is *in the band* or whatever, the only thing that matters is the new songs.

Yo Axl, Del, Fernando, Beta & co. put the songs out there. alright?

I really want to believe that there are songs there, in Axls vaults, that are of comparable quality to Oh My God and the best moments of CD. These things *should* see the light of day at some point. Call me a romantic but I believe that there is real potential for actual artistic merit in the group Axl originally gathered around him.

nothing to add beyond that.

nah.. Always hated looking at the freak show that was Robin and Bucket on stage together. The goth and the sideshow act... seriously starwar theme song and nutchuks? 2001/2 Neither Robin or Bucket look particuarlly stoked to be on stage. Robin seemed to get into it more in 2006/7 and I was sad to see him go But I liked DJ and Ron just fine. They are always super jazzed on stage. Tobias over Fortus... NEVER

There's more chance of the "Appetite" incarnation performing together onstage than the players outlined in the opening post. I would certainly advocate Buckethead coming back in any possible capacity but it simply isn't going to happen. I would also point out a lot of Guns fans are complete revisionists. A number of you despised Bucket when he was in the band and now he's gone he was suddenly detrimental to the "new" project; it'll happen with Bumblefoot too if he ever departs (a "personal agenda concerned slimeball" who suddenly becomes "awesome bro" overnight).

Bucket was getting hammered at for his style to act, behave and dress.

I was also one of the critics of Bucket back in 2001, but as time went on, Youtube-clips and CD-leaks showed that he was an amazing artist, and I turned pro-bucket. I am still a supporter and would like Buckethead to come back.

When it comes to DJ Ashba, I think that he is just a slash-lookalike that is in the band now that Axl suddenly has decided to go classic-blues-rock again.

Bumblefoot is great to the fans and a cool chap, but I prefer Bucketheads melodic playing over Bumblefoots psyca/funkadelica.

This is my dream-lineup:

Axl

Buckethead

Izzy

Josh Freese/Brain

4tus

Tommy Stinson

Mother Gooooooooooooooooose

Dizzy

Cool. My point is though that there's a lot of fans measuring how good people were based on what we have now (despite ridiculing those guys when they were in the band because of what they had before that again). There was a lot of hate for players like Finck for example, but now Dj's involved, Robin "wasn't so bad". I bet there'd be quite a few who'd change their tune in relation to Ashba if somebody deemed "lesser" was drafted in as a replacement. The reality is that Guns fans have been treated to a wealth of world class guitarists and yet there'll probably never be a unanimous acceptance unless the guy holding the Les Paul is named Slash (who really isn't as gifted on guitar as the likes of Bucket or Bumblefoot - yeah he can produce catchy, generic ruffs - but I would like to think GN'R has evolved from that).

They have evolved a long time ago. There is just a handful of idiots that are stuck in the past.

I agree. But can Dj Ashba provide continuity to that direction or are we seeing a move towards a more "Appetite" orientated, traditional sound?

You have an interesting point there.

You are probably right about the unanimous acceptance only with Slash. When Slash is back, the "general public" will view Guns N´ Roses as Guns N´ Roses, the worlds most dangerous band. But that will probably never happen.

But like you say, I also hoped that Guns N´ Roses had evolved from that era, but suddenly a top-hatted blues-style player emerged in the band, and then I´m talking about Dj Ashba. I was really surprised, and not in a positive way.

Finck really grew into the band with time, and when he left, it really was another blow to Guns N´ Roses. Everytime a player leaves, the band needs to jump back a couple of steps.

That said, I had hoped that we could have gotten one cd with every lineup since 2001, then we could have really have something to discuss on.

If there had been a trilogy of albums released through 2001-2010, Guns N´ Roses would have been well and good.

Now there is a risk that those songs, get worked on, reworked on, worked on and reworked on, until every song sounds like some of the overproduced elements on CD. =/

You are retarded.

A reunion of a scab line-up that never even fully recorded a released album.

Whats next?,

let's reunite all the 2001 scab line-ups of SKID ROW, L.A. GUNS, & FASTER PUSSYCAT.

They can all tour together,

We can call it the

GUNS N' SCABS TOUR 2011!!!

All your favorite 80's songs played by cover bands.

Wooooo-hooooooooo!!!!!

I think it will be a mix of both styles. DJ gives the impression of being a standard blues based player but I think there is more to him than that. Along with Bumble and Pitman on board we can expect some very interesting music.

Nah. I think we're seeing Guns N' Roses lean back to hard rock. I'd imagine Dj would be the most prominent player on a new record with Bumble being forced to conform to that vibe (there's no way Pitman will feature as heavily as he did on "Chinese" - I can't see him being in a sound dictating role).
