jarvispmitchell
Axl's been trying to keep GnR alive for a long time. As a fan, I'm glad I've gotten to see him perform a few more times in the last decade, even if I was underwhelmed by his voice and really disliked the new music. But after seeing Rio, where he was monumentally out of shape and completely unprofessional in pretty much every way, I'm starting to think it might just be better for him to retire gracefully. If this is how bad it is at 50, it makes me afraid to imagine what GNR will be like when he's 60. And really, it doesn't look like he's having much fun anyways. With GNR's amazing legacy, he shouldn't need money. If he's smart and professional, he's got more than enough revenue streams to support himself for the rest of his life. Quite comfortably. For creative satisfaction, maybe he could compose music for movies or something removed from metal and hard rock. I'm to a point where, even though I love getting to go see Axl play and love the idea of getting to hear my favorite old songs played loud and live, it may just be better to put GNR to bed with grace and dignity and reverence for the legacy. Difficult as it may be, I think maybe it could open up new opportunities for Axl and offer new creative inspiration.
WhazUp
He still has the potential to put on amazing shows. He had an off night at Rio, but what's done is done. If he prepares and properly rehearses with the band before and during the US tour, I have no doubt he will sound great again (like he did last year)
Cawso
Given the internet bashing he's been getting I would think only a public flogging live on Youtube would appease the masses....followed by retirement.
Kill Devil Hill
Should Axl retire? Fuck no. His voice was off, but literally ONE YEAR AGO, it was better than ever. I reckon '10 Axl will be returning soon. He just needs to get his feet wet again. Why don't GN'R do "secret" concerts like Maiden used to?
jarvispmitchell
Speaking for myself only, I don't want to see him flogged on Youtube. An apology to the fans he's disappointed would be nice though. Not just Rio. But the entire legacy of disappointments he's offered up over the years. Then retirement. Cosmo
The number of ridiculous assumptions based on a single concert is getting off limits... 'Is Axl on drugs?' 'Is the Beta family to blame?' 'Should Axl retire?'.... c'mon people... It was the same thing in 2001... now some people consider RiR III to be legendary. People like the past. JimMorrison4
Same things were said in 2002. Sure, he acted "unprofessional" when he forgot the words to his own song. But, when has Axl ever been "professional?" I'm sure you're aware if his history. It's not like this is anything new.

Die already. As much as you may want people to die/get murdered for being disappointed in your favorite singer, I think that's against the rules of the forum. The way you interpret CD is probably very different than the way a non-obsessed person interprets it.

There's still a chance he could lose 40 pounds, learn to sing again and develop some respect for his fans in the weeks before the next leg of the Chinese Democracy World Tour. I'm keeping my fingers crossed. Also, I hope they play If The World. That shit is the jam.
ColdHeartBreaker
Hey, is anybody gonna go to the show on the 5th? Is anybody gonna shoot some clips. That would be great. The only sensible question asked in this thread. We should make a new thread for this, the 2nd show should be fairly interesting. Sonny Largo
They should put a rule that you can't start a thread until you have 100 posts. That way we don't get shit like this. They should put a rule that unless you have something nice to say you can't say anything.Hey, wait! I know a site like that! CD became my second favorite album of all-time almost immediately. I didn't even know Estranged existed.TWAT and Coma are the reasons I'm as obsessed as I am today. Cawso
The conspiracy theorists are having an absolute field day with this. The amount of utter bullshit being posted on here is incredible....but I guess if there is a wall of silence then inevitably that's going to happen. Not sure if Axl has ever apologised to anybody in his life, so the chances of one to the internet community are miniscule. Maybe we should all just carry on and see how this tour pans out. SoulMonster
No, he shouldn't retire as long as he keeps entertaining people with live shows and sporadically release new music.

WhazUp
Its entirely up to Axl to decide. I personally don't want him to retire, he still gives great performances (Rio just wasn't one of them) and he still writes great music.
