Anything released prior to Frusciante joining the band - You would have never guessed judging by their first three albums how good this band would become. Frusciante was the catalyst. Plus a lot of rapping about pussy. "I wanna party on your pussy baby." Classy, Kiedis, classy.

I don't agree with that at all, in fact i think they were at their best pre-BSSM, i think you could've easily guessed how good they were gonna become off their early albums and i ain't the only one, they were had serious buzz, people like Malcolm McLaren don't look to manage shitbag bands, everything was there with em early on, Hillel weren't no fucking slouch as a guitarist, they were funky, they had groovy basslines and their drumming was solid as fuck. Yeah, content-wise they were a little pervy and sleazy but c'mon, it's not like after Frusciante came they suddenly became some kind of profound poet laureates. I think they came off more raw and more danceable and more fun in their early albums. Freaky Styley is their best album if you ask me. The early stuff is far superior.

I think they got much better when Frusciante joined but I also love Freaky Styley, I personally think it's better than BSSM and Mother's Milk, as an album.
