Embrace the future

I've grown increasingly annoyed at some of the comments on this board. The old band vs. new band and The Slash vs. everybody else who dares to play a guitar with GN'R thing is getting plain stupid.

Why do people think that this is a competition? The old band played the songs their way and it was great and the new band is doing it their own way and it sounds great as well. This isn't a competition. Slash is great and all that but move on already, he's gone and doing his own thing. I don't get this being a Axl fan vs. being a Slash fan. Both are great, both are part of the original GN'R lineup and contributed heavily to the bands success along with Izzy, Duff and Steven. Only one of those guys remain and now we have other guys playing old songs, they won't sound the same but different doesn't make it worse. The "new" guys sound incredibly tight and do a wonderful job of doing the old songs justice. The new stuff sounds awesome as well. The current lineup seems like a proper band as well, they have fun playing together and seem to be good friends.

Axl looks like he's very happy with his current lineup, they have toured all over the world with success and the US audience is finally coming around. Hopefully we'll see a new release from GN'R soon. Having said that. Slash, Duff and Izzy also seem to be very happy in what they're doing and that's the most important thing. Hopefully Steven is happy is well. I personally don't care if a reunion ever happens, we have all the old albums, dvd's and bootlegs to relive the old days. Why can't we just all look forward to the future for what it is? It doesn't matter how much fans complain about all the stuff in GN'R-World, it won't change a thing. Axl will keep doing his thing and the others will as well.

Like it or not, Guns N' Roses is Axl, Bumblefoot, DJ, Fortus, Tommy, Dizzy, Chris and Frank. They do a damn fine job of representing GN'R around the world, they give it their all and for that they deserve a hand. It can't be the most easy gig in the world with all the bitching and moaning that surrounds GN'R.

Bottom line is this... living in the past, trying to belittle past or current members of the band, bitching, moaning and attacking other fans because they don't share your views (whatever side you're on) is plain childish. Try to celebrate the past and embrace the future.

And touring CD for going on 11 years is not living in the past???? lol

This is one of the worst eras for this forum in the ten years ive been a poster.

In a thread where the OP asks people to stop fighting, stop the Axl-v-slash posts....the same few posters as always have to come in and tell us how Axl has failed.

What annoys fans on a GnR forum is not that you people aren't happy with Axl and the new band. That's your right. Hate away. What is annoying, is that u blame Axl for breaking up the old band, you blame Axl for soiling the GnR name, for only putting out one album, for starting late, for the set-lists, etc, etc, etc.....yet you come to a GnR forum every day to complain about it. You spend more time in the current GnR section than you do in the slash sections.

You spend more time whining and crying about Axl than most people do about singers they don't like. If a singer caused me 15% as much frustration as Axl causes some of you, I wouldn't waste one minute of my life talking about that band. Much less go to their forum every day.

Personally, I loved CD. Old guns are my favorite band of all time. Today's GnR is my current favorite band. Music is to be enjoyed, not constantly to whine and cry and get mad about.

Well, that's bullshit.

Remember 2003-2004 when NOTHING was going on? But you're right about the set lists. People keep complaining Axl didn't play "Locomotive" for their 240p viewing pleasure. It's kind of retarded to request a song at a concert you are not physically attending. In that instance, I totally fathom why Axl Rose quit the Internet. I don't blame him. He'll always get shit, because he's Axl, and he did actually break-up the band. You can call it whatever. But if I'm comparing:

- 2 dudes burning through heroin, and loose pussy.

- 1 dude collecting crystals in Sedona, and undergoing past-life, regressive hypnosis.

Who would you assume broke-up the band?

I don't care who broke up the old band? Me caring isn't going to change the fact that it happened.

They were all responsible. Probably Axl had a higher percentage than the others. WHICH is his right. They were a band. If the members of the band were not happy together, they have the RIGHT to leave that band. Sucks for the fans, but it is THEIR LIVES to do with as they want.

DId Slash and Duff sit around crying and whining about it? No. They formed new bands, continue to make new music, and are doing the job that they love.

Does that answer your question? Axl was the biggest contributer to the old band's break-up. Crying and whining about it for the next 20 years will not change what happened. I don't know why it is soooo important for the Axl bashers to bring it up. Daily. In every post. We get it - Axl was a prick and broke up the old band. Do we have to talk about it in every thread?

And the forum is worse now, simply because of the reason you stated.

With no album, no music, no touring, nothing going on......it was understandable for people to gripe and complain.

But now we have touring, including a current tour where the band is playing a 3-hour set including the holy grail Estranged. We had an album a couple years ago. We have the band members, including Axl, talking to the media. But the haters still come here and bash Axl every day. People love to hate the guy. Which is fine - but why come to a GnR forum to do it? Why not post on forums of bands that you love?

Axl Rose has been attacked by the media, and average people since day one. It's how it's always been, it's how it'll always be. It might not seem fair, or reasonable. But for some reason - it's how it is. In part, the media likes drama, and fascinating people to sell words. On to the other hand, Axl's an easy target.

And it's worse on the Internet. Criticism has become more extreme due to the invasiveness of the Internet in our daily lives. Generally, the vibe of the 'net has become more cynical, more irrational, and oddly...less intelligent. Isn't cynicism usually identified with being, or possessing intelligence? This behavioral consensus isn't exclusively applied to Guns 'N' Roses - it's applied to our entire cultural stratosphere. People used to go online to discuss, and download their passions. Be it porn, film, music, science, etc. The Internet is no longer a geek's niche, or even optional. It's now as mandatory as oxygen, or water for the youth.

At the same time, I agree Axl's been unfairly criticized next to Slash. I like Slash's solo efforts more than Axl's - but his Super Bowl performance received a complete bye from the GN'R community. And I'm all for Slash experimenting for unusual partnerships. I really liked his single with Elan, and that one song: "Obsession Confession".

But freaking "Sweet Child O' Mine" with FERGIE?

How would people react if Axl sang "Jungle" with Lil Wayne on guitar at the FIFA World Cup?

More than enough time? Two years?

Ten years and running...one album whose primary guitarists are no longer present...and vast long stretches of nothing but rumour and innuendo speculation and wishful thinking mixed with vague hints of actually working on new music as a 'band' .

given that the originals hit the skids in 95-98 there has been...three and a half tours of CD predating the release of he actual album with zilch indication that the next one out will be out before Generation X starts to retire and shop around for nursing homes.

Good point,I can actually remember when we read magazines, and watched MTV for news about GNR,sometimes we even heard them mentioned in the news. I have a love/hate conundrum concerning the internet.
