Is Axl a Judas Priest fan?

I could've sworn I remembered hearing that he was a big Priest fan. Didn't he say something about it on That Metal Show??

His singing style is definately influenced by Rob Halford. And I know BBF and Duff are big fans.

He actually belittled the lead singer or something for being gay …not cool

On TMS?

Well, he mentioned something on the radio interview in 2006 with Eddie Trunk, Sebastian Bach, Jericho etc. He was asked "Priest or Maiden?" and he said early Priest (and later added "-or the first Maiden album") so interpret that as you may. I don't remember anything about it in TMS but then again I haven't watched it very carefully yet.

I think Axl is influenced by a lot of different styles of music regardless of his opinions on the people that have produced that music. For example; in the same interview he stated that he liked a song by the 'Offsprings' even though the band had tried to jack the title of CD.

But then again, you would have to ask Axl. :shrugs:

That's not saying much though; it's pretty common knowledge he has no love for Maiden whatsoever.

I thought I read something about him being at one of their MSG shows at some point. I know he thinks that Maiden is not rock n' roll, which is pretty true. They are metal as hell, but rock n' roll? No. I love Maiden, but I wouldn't call them Rock N' Roll in the traditional sense that Axl obviously loves (Queen, Elton, Stones etc)

Ya,I think people generally hang onto what he said in the interview in '88 (I think it was right after the Donnington gig?) where the lady asks him if they were anything like Iron Maiden and the said no. I think he said something like 'We're a rock n' roll band. What they do is what they do, I don't know what it is, and I hope to never be like that. I hope it's not catching.'

Which again can be taken either way...

Considering Mercury and Elton are favorite singers of his, it's highly unlikely he'd make a comment about him. He prob. even liked Two.

Between that interview from '88 and the comment from the Trunk show in '06, I think it's pretty clear he still doesn't care for Maiden. Hasn't he said elsewhere the only Maiden albums he enjoys at all are the Di'Anno albums as well? I may be wrong, but I believe I remember hearing that.

That was again the '06 Eddie Trunk interview and he didn't state liking "Di'Anno albums" himself, that was Eddie.

I believe the whole thing went like this;

I think it was Jerichio or Scott Ian that asked Axl,

“Let me just ask you this Axl; we’re in here, we always talk about metal, we talk just about nothing else... we always have the ongoing debat on who do you like – I said I have to go there – who do you like better: Priest or Maiden?”

Axl: “... old Priest... and the first Maiden album!”

Someone at the back: “Well see, there you go! Thats my side!”

Eddie: “He like the Paul Di'Anno stuff! Axl’s down with the Di'Anno era... where they had the punk vibe to them with Paul Di'Anno.”

The whole thing?

Listen through this, it’s in there... somewhere. I think around the beginning, a few minuets after he walks in.

Love this interview purely due to Bach and Axl interaction and Sebastian going all fanboy on Axl (especially before he walks in)
