saber_
Will there eventually be a movie about Guns n Roses? Should there even be one? What do you think?Do you think it would end being like the Social Network in terms of narrative style and overall feel? Clearly there are some parallels there- lawyers, frienemies, nemeses, sex, drugs, rock n roll, interwebz. Or what movie do you think it would be like (y'know, hypothetically speaking)? Guest NewGNRnOldGNR
I don’t see this happening, no. There’s no particular instance in GN’R’s timeline that warrants a film. Perhaps the Rock Hall.Or Axl’s life. Axl Rose: The Last Rockstar

If done well it should be a good one.The movie has been discussed for some time, and while Sixx can't give specifics yet, he promises the film, based on the group's memoir The Dirt, will happen. "We have sort of an agreement with a production company, directors, etc, to right now just keep it amongst ourselves," he says. "So once we have everything really together, we’re gonna let everybody know. But trust me, when I say the wheels are in motion they’re definitely in motion."Read more: http://www.rollingstone.com/music/news/nikki-sixx-vegas-residency-is-start-of-biggest-years-of-crues-career-20111221#ixzz1iQga0Oyh

axlsalinger
This is actually a pretty interesting idea. It would be hard to write and find the right structure, but there is definitely a killer movie in there somewhere. Especially is Fincher were to direct it. Buckethead's involvement, and more specifically his interaction with Axl and the band, and his eventual exit- THAT would be fascinating. There's plenty of super-interesting things in the ENTIRE timeline, not just pre-95.

SunnyDRE
it's not a knock against the new band, but any movie about GNR would end after Slash and Duff leave. Now if you're talking a documentary, I can see that including the entire history up until now. This is actually a pretty interesting idea. It would be hard to write and find the right structure, but there is definitely a killer movie in there somewhere. axlsalinger
It's hard to say. On one hand, the Chinese Democracy era was in some ways more interesting than the previous one. On the other hand, if you try to include everything you run the risk of (1) a 7-hour movie, or (2) an incoherent mess. A lot of bio-pics do choose to focus in on a particular timeframe for these reasons (see The Aviator as an example). Just works better that way, as a film.smoke a blunt, grab a brew and watch the first half of Estranged. In my head I picture that as the GNR movie. It's like the trailer to it.I fucking love the Estranged video. Always have. Edited January 3, 2012 by axlsalinger

axlsalinger
Maybe the answer is a two-part miniseries. Part 1: 1985-1997Part 2: 1998-Present

That scene probably should be in the movie.I think the problem is, there so much to tell, that how do you break it down to a 2 hour movie; Also, lets be honest... how much do we really know about the period between 1995-2002 in regards to Axl? Most of that era would be based off speculation.

Chris 55
1. Justin Timberlake kinda drags that scene down with all his interruptions2. Why would the uploader violate copyright by uploading the video but then think "I need to bleep the word 'fuck', I don't want people getting offended!" ppruks
if I were to write a screenplay on a period in Guns history, it would be either on the early days, chunks from the childhoods of the band members, settling into the LA scene, forming the band, recording of appetite and ends with everyone's downfall going into the 1988-1991 period...because if that's the story, then it has to ends on a bitter note, there's no way around it....including the illusion tour into the movie would be too much and it gets repetitive after a while...there are too many crappu movies about rockstar excesses, the movies that are great are about people...everything else is a prop and scenery...it's like...you can say that Godfather is a mob movie...but to me it's a lot more than that...goodfellas is a mob movie...godfather is something bigger...the guns n' roses story could be just that another great screenplay would be about the recording of CD...a musical prodigy/underdog story...how do you go about trying to rebuild and outdo something that was the best thing to ever happen to you...it wouldn't be impossible to pull off, if there was any tangible records of the whole era....it would be the perfect ground to explore the dichotomy of art and commerce, dealing with impossible expectation and insurmountable personal issues and at the same time trying to transcribe your most intimate thoughts and feelings into art....axl himself would be a great biopic, but I think that focusing on CD would be even more interesting...because of the legend and the mythical aura that surrounded/still surrounds italso if I were to have someone direct the guns n' roses movie..it would probably be Coppola...he's great with depicting human interactions...and his screenplays are always so fresh and detailed...
