So now it's 2012; two full years separating us from the past decade. I'm sure you got familiar with some records that you didn't know about during the decade that were from the decade and I'm sure some that you thought you really liked at the time you lost some love for by now. As far as new bands that came around/became prominent in that decade I'd say my favorite is The Killers. Those guys just keep getting better with each album.

The release of long awaited albums by AC/DC, Guns N' Roses, and Metallica all in the same year within a month or two was pretty awesome in 2008.

Contraband came out not long after I started getting into Guns N' Roses so it was exciting to see what this "new band with Slash" was all about.

I didn't really discover much "new music" during that decade as I was really just starting to discover music in general at the beginning of it. Before I'd listen to pretty much anything just for some background noise, then finally I started discovering some rock bands with AC/DC being the first I really got into thanks to television. I caught a showing of "Live at Donington" and it blew me away. I picked up a guitar not long afterward so really, that decade of music is extremely important to me. It changed my life, and hell, it brought me to MyGNR.

It doesn't really take much looking to find fantastic music from this decade.

It jus requires you taking your heads out of your ass.

True, Though I have a better time with the 80's and, especially, the 90's - personal opinion here.

the 2000's lacked a huge musical movement like previous decades, but it wasn't a bad decade at all.

The Rising by Bruce Springsteen stands out along with Chinese Democracy, Back to Black, Parachutes & Rush of Blood to the Head, Hot Fuss, Contraband, Village Gorilla Head, Buckethead and Slim Shady in the early parts of the decade and Black Holes & Revelations, can't think of any more but there are some others I've no doubt missed ;)

It had a movement, to an extent.

I wasn't alive in the 80s, and didn't really notice in the 90s so I can't offer much as far as that goes.

I do enjoy a lot of the alternative 90s groups. The 80s was mostly weak for me, save GNR of course.

I decided to go back and list notable albums from each year, as I noticed I actually left quite a few off of my original top 20 list. Obviously I wound up with a lot more than 20 this time around. This list represents what I was into at the time, or what I appreciate more now looking back on it. Some of these albums I've outgrown (I'm looking at you, 90's punk bands), but I still listed them as they were part of what I was into at the time.

Album of the decade for me is Mayer Hawthorne's "A Strange Arrangement", no contest. I can't even begin to guess how many times I've listened to that album front to back; somewhere in the hundreds I'm sure.

Alice Cooper - Along Came A Spider

You gotta be kidding me, that was 3+ years ago already? Aye yaye yaye! I thought that was like, early 2011 lol. Can't believe it. Time sure goes fast now. I wish I still had a 4-year-old's sense of time. Great album, though, and I loved the promo videos, especially as I'm a big fan of Psycho.
