Powerage5
I prefer EVH of the 2. But my favorite guitarist would be either Dick Dale or Tony Iommi.
James Bond
Both innovative, but I have to go with Eddie.

Georgy Zhukov
Hendrix. Both are extremely overrated but Hendrix was more innovative of the two.

dalsh327
I think you have to take into account Jimi having a lot of limitations and only having 4 years, plus having to record and tour simultaneously. Van Halen had 4 albums worth of songs before 1978, so I'd have to give it to Jimi over Eddie. There's also some great EVH solos buried in some of Sam's mediocre songs & on III. mrandyk
I much prefer Van Halen's playing to Hendrix, but if you are asking who was more influential then it is without a doubt Hendrix.

tat2d1
EVH. Hendrix was awesome, but Eddie took it to a whole other level. I think even Jimi would've wanted to jam with Eddie, had he still been alive.

Nick83
I'm appreciating Eddie Van Halen's brilliance more and more. There are so many sweet spots on the new album. Got me totally interested in him. My respect is growing big time.
