Probably been discussed before but....

Anyone else get shivers every time you listen to that amazing outro or the genius that are the additional instruments (piano, synth, symphony)? Or the more-than-personal dark and deep yet smooth lyrics by Axl? How good is Prostitute to you?

It took me awhile to get into the song, but once I did, damn. Axl makes Prostitute for me, honestly. I love his phrasing of the entire song, the emotion he inserts in every word. The song gives me chills and has the most "magical" moments of any Guns N' Roses song for me. The "I told you when I found you, if there were doubts" stuff and the "Up and awaaaay." I get chills. I voted masterpiece. This is one of my favorite songs off of Chinese Democracy and is dangerously close to overtaking TWAT as my absolute favorite Chinese song. A perfect song. The outro makes you want to replay it over and over again. It's just a special song.

I really love this song, specially this part:

"I Told You When I Found You If There Was Doubts You Should Be Careful and Not Afraid Now They Surround You N' All That Amounts To Is Love That You've Crippled For Fortune And Fame!"

Masterpiece, definetely.

I thought it was, "Fed for perversion and pain." :P Oh well. That's my favorite part, too.

Second best GNR song as far as I'm concerned.

What's the first? :drevil:

Never heard it, but since it's not Guns n' Roses, I don't even care, so I voted "awful".

C'mon man. You're starting to get on my nerves... :anger:

You've never heard the song!

You said it better than I could

Very good post and I agree with everything you said. Too bad they couldn't nail it live. It'd be awesome. I'm pretty sure when Axl said he hadn't shown us the big guns back in 2006 (I think), my guess is he was talking about Prostitute and TWAT.

I voted "good" overall. The outro I'd rate as a masterpiece. What a great end to the album. Otherwise, I think the song is a little on the overrated side. Well written, but for whatever reason I never got into it. Make of that what you will though. I'm the guy who loves Riad.

I'm with you on that. I'd take Rhiad over Prostitute any day.

I voted "good".

To me Prostitute as always been the "epilogue" song, something that plays at the end while credits roll. The intro sounds a little pensive and introspective and really sets the mood for me. When I hear that song I usually sit back in my chair, relax and let my mind to wander but then as the song builds up and gets a little, dare I say "meaner", I find myself become more tense as well. It certainly paints a picture in my mind... but at the same time it doesn’t get me keyed up like TWAT, Better or Shacklers.

For me the lyrics, music and composition blend really well on the track but I was let down by the vocals. Idk... something about Axl's voice on this song (and some others on CD) just doesn't sit well with me...

The Lyrics are awesome, my favorite part :

What would you say

If I told you that I'm to blame?

And what would you do

If I had to deny your name?

Where would you go if I told you

I love you

And then walked away?

Bucket Outro Solo and drums are highlights for me too.

Masterpiece

Masterpiece, no doubt about it, it actually took me a good couple months to get into it funnily enough. Very deceptive track, it's poetic and the words chosen carefully almost but the soundtrack is biting and acidic as if it represents the hurt and venom behind Axl's surface words and the end brings a striking sense of catharsis.

I always imagined it as kinda like 'The Underture' in Alice Cooper's last album. Like the final, most emotional part that sums up the entire album's directions.

Really? Love those vocals. It barely has any rasp. I don't think rasp would sound well in this song.

They're good performances but still.... they don't do the song justice, IMO.

whatever people says about the band performance, they sound fucking nice

Yes, been saying that since '09... Axl fucked up the thing, not the band. The instrumental sounds awesome... Frank pulling this track live made me think that he's a really great replacement for Brain. I wasnt sure back then. Bumble's solos were some of the highlights as well.

I really don't think Prostitute is a good song at all, I voted Bad. The piano part is so horrible and unnecessary, the verse sounds so out of place and uninspired alongside the chorus, its a mess of a song. never understood the love for it and i guess i never will

Prostitute, Shacklers, and This I Love are easily my least favorite songs on Chinese Democracy.
