Bands where the Lead Guitarist or a Guitarist was more important than the Lead Singer?

Dave Mustaine with Metallica.

........he sucks so no.

But Marty friedman with Megadeth

If you're saying Marty was 'more important' than Mustaine then I disagree vastly. Friedman is a superb lead player but his impact was awesome leads and a handful of co-written tracks on five albums, three classics and two duds imo. Deth has and always will be 95% Dave compositions including blazing leadwork playing off technical guitarists, Marty's absence hasn't left the band unhinged or lacking after his departure and the albums before Rust in Peace certainly weren't lacking either, it's all down to the strength of Mustaine's songcrafting and venomous visions.

as I said before I only said that because he said Dave and Metallica witch is just wrong (the sound was allready there when he joined the band).

And because I like Marty and thinks Dave is an asshole :D

The weird thing is that some of Marty's solo stuff is loads heavier/meaner than what Megadeth were doing towards the end of his time with the band. Heavier than what they've done since he left, frankly.

They didn't not have their sound yet when Dave joined, all they had was a version of Hit the Lights that lacked any bite. They would have never gotten off the ground without Dave. Their material went way downhill once the stuff he wrote ran out, and then it became near unlistenable once Cliff died.

no. Dave has said that he wanted to be in Metallica because it was the heaviest band he ever heard and wanted to be apart of it.

The only good song from Kill 'em All that Dave has writing credit on is The Four Horsemen and he only has writing credits on two songs from Ride the Lightning.

And that they would never gotten of the ground without Dave? Stupid. all that he did was trying to play as fast as he could and did it badly. They could have gotten someone much better. I'm glad they kicked him out but they still could have taken someone better then Kirk afterward.... but he's still better then Dave and Kirk's not an asshole or a junkie.

yeah he was important he helped writing some of the worst songs by old Metallica :P

Dave's role in early Metallica was bringing fans (and the girls) to the show and building the following. Lars and Dave have talked about this in the book and in interviews. Once they had enough songs and got tired of him, they kicked him to the curb and found someone that was way more easygoing but could deliver hard and fast. Hetfield didn't really have much in the way of people skills but once Dave was out and they were getting repeat business, he broke out of his shell (although the drinking played a big part in that).

I don't care what people say about St Anger, they wound up making Some Kind of Monster, which blows away any behind the scenes "making of". Fuck Let It Be, this is all the stuff that should've been in that movie.

I'd actually like to see Dave write songs with Metallica before they all call it a day. Can't do any worse than Lou Reed at this point.
