Downsides to a Live BluRay release?

There are no downsides to a blu-ray release.

This is untrue.

I'm all for releasing content to nourish (and build) your fanbase but every industry has discernibly proved the inferiority of physical content distribution.

From a basic business perspective, there's the problem of (1) HDTV/bluray adoption rate and (2) High overhead/cost with physical releases.

The future is digital distribution, prudently marrying free-to-play with lower cost digital content.

And then, as HRS so cynically pointed out, the initial amount of demand and interest in that product/brand anyway.

Wrong.

If you want a 3-hour, 1080p quality, 5.1 TrueHD audio quality release, you are not going to get it in digital distribution because it would be at least 30-40 gigabytes in size.

Also, a blu-ray would only cost $17-20, which is perfectly fine. DVD probably around $15. People would and will buy it.\

Sure, a ton of people prefer digital distribution (especially when it comes to just albums), but when it comes to actual video content, the number of people who want a physical release is much higher.

Having said that, i would LOVE to see some hd/sbd stuff come out for real. IMO the Tokyo 2009 in-ear "sbd" is the best thing to come from this band since the CD leak of CITR with Brian May.

Check out the in-ear monitor audio from GNR's 2007 show in Tokyo - it's from the end of the 2006-2007 tour and Axl's in good form.
