GivenToFly
I'm running through a bunch of Hitchcock films now. Strangers on a Train was the last one I saw. Thought it was great, but didn't love the Hollywood-ied up ending. Though I guess at the time maybe it was a new concept. Hays code. One of the worst ideas anyone's ever had in the entertainment business. Really takes away from the enjoyment of a movie when you already know that the bad guys will inevitably lose.I looooooove Hitchcock but I think Vertigo is one of his worst movies, despite it being one of the most famous. I just think it's not as clever and doesn't live up to the writing and plot of many of his other ones. I feel the praise is unwarranted. Strangers on a Train and North by Northwest are the shit, though. It's been a very long time since I've seen them but I remember thinking the exact opposite: I thought Vertigo was brilliant but I didn't like North By Northwest very much. At first i thought it was a leverage thing They'll be no shaggin' in American Cinema unless it's done right, goddammit! But apparently it's about decency.I've seen everything mentioned really, cept Dark Night, Star Wars, some Jason Statham film mentioned earlier. Other than that, seen pretty much all the ones mentioned. Jurrassic Park, see, i ain't interested in seeing a film about a bunch of fuckin dinosaurs, i weren't interested in it when it came out and i was actually a kid but it was a load of shit then and it's a load of shit now. How do i know without seeing it, i just do When you've seen as many films as the kid you can fuckin' smell comin' a mile off, a shit film. There are certain telltale signs. For instance:Set in space = piece of shit (cept 2001)Stars Jude Law = piece of shitDisaster movies, like fuckin Daylight and Twister and fuckin...those films to me are just insulting to my fuckin intelligence, you can't blind me with CGI to cover over the fact that this is a fuckin' film thats basically devoid of a plot.Men in Black, fucks all that about? Will Smith twatting about in a black suit with fuckin' Tommy Lee Jones looking like a used winkley condom hanging off a washing line.Bond films in general. For fuckssake, enough already, y'know, bond in wetsuit, bond enters dinner party lookin' like slick fucker, bond has a bit of a shootout somewhere, careful not to ruffle his suit, Bond meets Q "now pay attention Bond", Q gives him a load of tailor made plot devices without which the movie would be crippled, and blah blah, etc etc no one gives a fucking toss. Wake up in time to see Bond cop off with the leading lady. Although Connery and Roger Moore were sick.Independence Day...and whats that one with Bruce Willis and his daughter and i don't wanna miss a thing and all that? That one, ugh, God Awful fuckin' crap cinema. All them Bourne films and all that, these cat and mouse, to and fro race against time pieces of shit, it's like break with the fuckin formula you cunts. Georgy Zhukov
Andrei RublevAguirre, Wrath of GodI've seen everything listed so far except these two. There's still some Bergman on my list and Carl Dreyer. Everyone I know who's seen Bergman films hate them even though they are among the greatest ever. I've seen Seventh Seal and Wild Strawberries but I have not seen Virgin Spring. dalsh327
I've skipped on a lot of westerns, but saw Wild Bunch, Butch and Sundance, Pat Garrett & Billy the Kid, Unforgiven, the Man w/ No Name Trilogy, and one other Clint Eastwood flick. Dances With Wolves I guess counts. Just got around to seeing John Wayne in The Searchers. But looking through the list, never saw Shane, High Noon. Other than that, just saw Doctor Zhivago for the first time a few months ago. Other stuff I haven't seen that's on these "Best Of" lists: Life is Beautiful, Cinema Paradiso, Schindler's List, Bicycle Thieves, Mr Smith Goes to Washington, Hotel Rwanda, Grapes of Wrath, Rules of the Game, Grand Illusion, Battleship Potemkin.
