Documentary of Use Your Illusion tour using the hundreds of hours of unreleased footage that was filmed

Agreed.

If they let a good director weed through that footage, I bet all the backstage scenes with Duff drinking and crowds going crazy waiting for Axl would tell the story as to why the band was falling apart.

That movie would make a zillion dollars if they put it in theatres. Think of Metallica's "Some Kind of Monster".

I would pay a lot more than $50 for unreleased studio material. Wouldn't have to be CD era either. I just love the music and have deep pockets for GNR.

Yep. The only thing that bugged me was the phrase "outtakes" which hints that the songs aren't as good as those that became Chinese Democracy. We know the band worked on many songs intended for two different records and that allegedly many of the "big guns" were supposed for the follow-up. Those are the songs I want, and -- lo and behold! -- it seems that I will get them in a few years without having to shell out $50.

As for the options, I'd probably go for the UYI documentary.

As much as I'm dying for new material- the "Illusions" Tour Documentary footage is the "Holy Grail" in the GN'R vault IMHO. I don't think we'll see it soon b/c I suspect with proper release, promotion and distribution channels, etc. it would be a pretty big hit and draw way more attention to "Old Guns" than Axl would be comfortable with. Maybe we'll get to see it in 10-15 years when Axl's hung up his mic and fedora though...

The rest of the CD-era material, without question

Not sure why people insist on calling the material "outtakes" or "leftovers," though. That's like saying Estranged, Civil War and Locomotive were UYI I "leftovers" or "outtakes"

"Chinese Leftovers"

Mentioned before, but it'll make a great, funny album name.

If Axl had enough confidence in the material he would have released another disc of songs in 2008 on the same day.

My guess: he didn't

I remember Brain or someone described Prostitute as a big gun, and then years later when everyone heard it for the first time they were disappointed.

I think the follow-up album will have material written recently along with a few re-recorded tracks from the Chinese Democracy sessions.

Why is that only a matter of confidence and not also business sense?

Because his plan for follow-up albums (or lack thereof) doesn't show business sense.

It's been 4 years and we have nothing new. Instead of touring the band for no good reason the past 9 months, he could have been recording.

You realize that musicians make far more money touring than they do recording/releasing music, right?

New music = new exposure = more people coming to shows

Other than die-hards and casual fans attending shows because of the brand name "Guns N' Roses", the fanbase is dying.

Axl needs to properly put out an album, promote an album, and tour to support it.

He has not been able to do that since 1993.

But Axl isn't in it for the money, remember? Only bands like metallica, motley crue, bon jovi, green day and Slash are here for the money. Axl has integrity and nothing GnR does is tied to money. Remember?

Yes, a band typically makes more from touring than albums. But the way bands keep tours fresh and interesting, and keep people coming back for new shows, is by infusion new music into the tours.

If GnR kept this current tour alive, attendance will continue to decline.

Without new music, GnR will be playing to smaller and smaller crowds......which leads to less money....which eventually leads to band members quiting.....which eventually leads to Axl and Dizzy and a couple unknowns playing fairs and clubs, or to Axl just retiring.

Yet I was referring to a post about "business sense," and in that context it makes more "business sense" to release albums sporadically and tour extensively.

And all this talk of attendance "continuing to decline" is really nonsense. GnR's tour attendance has been roughly the same in 2002, 2006 and 2009-2012. It may have fluctuated some in certain markets but it's really been basically the same. The reality is that even if GnR were to release a highly successful album by current standards this year or next, the bulk of the audience will be most interested in hearing the hits/classics. That's just the way it is for bands that have been around for 25+ years and peaked in popularity 20 years ago; that's not exclusive to GnR.
