I do like Daniel Craig as Bond, but i heard that actor Luke Evans might be up for the Bond role after Craig leaves. That would be interesting. He certainly is handsome, but can he fill Bond's shoes?

Fans have asked the question since the 1960s. They will keep him around for a couple of movies if he is good or hire a new actor if he fails to deliver a good performance.

Evans did theater and can convey emotion pretty good. For a movie like Bond you need a certain charm and stoic poser deep badass. It's not the scale of the the premise that is the problem is playing the character with the right James Bond flavor. Remains to be seen. A lot of good Bond movies were possible thanks to Daniel Craig. Many scenes where he totally nailed it.

Luke Evans will be at least 45 when a movie with him would be due. I say he's too old.

it's not ideal for a James Bond movie, I agree. He can still pull it off, I'll reserve judgment. Tom Cruise still accomplishing the impossible while being 60 so I think that the american film industry has no problem casting older men in this day and age. Not sure how much it could make a difference for me as long as the movie is good and I believe the performance and accept Evans as the new Bond as a viewer. Can't know until it's released.

Never in the history of casting Bond have they gone with a widely known actor. I suppose Roger Moore and Pierce Brosnan were the most known at the time of their respective castings due to their television successes, but Lazenby was literally a nobody, and Connery and Dalton were hardly household names when they were cast. Daniel Craig was respected but not widely known the world over. It's not like anybody watched Tomb Raider and went, "hey, that guy for Bond!"

Anyways, my point is that we can forget about Luke Evans, Tom Hardy, Tom Hiddleston, Idris Elba, etc...

None of those will be Bond after Craig. Media speculation on the Bond role has never been anything short of unreliable.

I'm sorry if I'm mistaken but isn't there a rumour Lashana Lynch will be taking up the mantle of 007 after Daniel Craig leaves?

Correct. Supposedly she’s already using the 007 codename cause Bond technically retired at the end of the last film.

No. It was nothing more than some media embellishment of what is a mere in-joke in the film (that she has replaced Bond after his retirement).

From Barbara Broccoli herself - Bond will remain male and she would prefer to keep writing original female characters that are strong.

Wow that's a relief

Originally, we had five actors playing the same character in one timeline before the Craig reboot, do you think with any new actor coming in, they'll carry on the Craig timeline or reboot that too? It might get a bit tiresome after the third continuity, like, how many times do you want to retell the story of this guy's life?

They planned to add a female agent for the next sequel if I'm not mistaken. That would have been in the same timeline as Craig's Bond.

I think they'll just carry on with business as usual after Craig. Likely a soft reboot as it was for Dalton and Brosnan where they just updated to the then contemporary settings of the eighties and nineties respectively.

I wouldn't really call the Craig reboot a retelling of the same story - more just wiping the slate clean for the sake of a faithful adaptation of Casino Royale. By the time Skyfall rolls around it feels like just another Bond movie (and not in a bad way).

I've always just ignored the anachronisms in the series. And don't anybody mention that code name garbage.

Yeah but isn’t there still some evidence to suggest that she’s using the 007 number?

In the movie - yes. Bond is retired, and he meets the new 007 in Cuba or wherever. That doesn't mean she's going to be "James Bond" in future films. Nothing more than a gag from the film (based on leaks) that the media grabbed and ran away with.

Yeah I get what you mean. People assume she’s gonna be the future of the franchise, but not necessarily.

The next time we see Bond again it’ll just be another hard reboot, which was probably always the plan anyways.

I concur. As much as I've enjoyed the continuity in the Craig films I'll happily welcome a return to standalone adventures.

His best acting ever right there. ;)

In all seriousness, it’s pretty wild that’s he’s been bond for 15 years. Doesn’t feel like it’s actually been that long. So yeah, I could see this being emotional for him.

The new documentary on Apple TV is fantastic. Daniel, Barbara, and Michael have what is basically a retrospective conversation about his time as Bond. His farewell to the cast and crew is included, as is some of his original screen test. It's only 45 minutes long but it actually gets quite emotional. I turn 30 next year so he's literally been Bond half my life. It's going to be very strange without him.

  • James Bond changed the title to James Bond: No Time To Die [OUT NOW - SPOILERS]

Reviews are great!

There's a very consistent "best since Casino Royale" vibe from some of what I've seen, although I've been trying to avoid reading too much. I did watch one spoiler free review from a Bond YouTuber I like and he said that he expects it to be a huge hit with critics but possibly polarizing among fans, which excites me a lot. Tells me there will be much to unpack and discuss!

Okay, leaving the thread for real this time.

I just seen it.

Easily my favorite James Bond film released since I've been alive. The World Is Not Enough was the first I seen in the cinema as a kid pretending to be older than he was. It's the perfect 25th film and tribute to the series. I think my favorite film in the series previously was

Spoiler

On Her Majesty's Secret Service

this is probably better imo.

(MAJOR SPOILERS)

Spoiler

I got a little teary eyed tbh when "We have all the time in the world played" at the end in a callback to OHMSS. I'm actually surprised they killed him, I thought given the past teases he'd just be rescued at the end. They actually ended the story.

So I guess that means we get another reboot eventually?

That little French girl was perfect as their child.

It's rare these sorts of films actually exceed my expectations.

Yeah. Also just saw it. It was alright. Another villain with an iffy motive, just like Blofeld and a strange dude, just like Silva and really the actors who play him and Madeline are practically the same age, so that took me out a bit. But yeah, it was a good send off. Kinda liked the throwback to OHMSS, my favourite Bond movie. Looking forward to what the future brings.
