Snooped on the JB reddit today. Happy to see someone else pointed out how awesome Jon Hamm would've been as Bond (outside of the fact that he's American). ^_^

Apparently they might make a live-action movie of Archer and cast him

Speaking of James Bond (the poster), he looks pretty similar to Cary Grant. That would've been another interesting person playing Bond.

Jon Hamm would be an excellent choice if they opted for an American Bond. He's long been discussed on the Bond forums.

If you want to know what Cary Grant would have been like as Bond, just watch North By Northwest. I feel like they based a lot of the cinematic Bond on the "Cary Grant character."

Fun fact - he was a close friend of Cubby Broccoli and was almost asked. The studio had wanted a big name to attach to the film so they considered guys like Cary Grant and James Mason (probably coming off the success of North By Northwest). Cubby just figured he wouldn't be able to get Cary to commit to more than one film and Grant was already 58 years old.

If you wanna hear Hamm do a (semi) decent British accent, watch A Young Doctor's Notebook. Not a good enough accent to play Bond, however. If Hamm was younger they could give him the Lazenby treatment and dub over his voice for half the movie

I was looking up Cary Grant last night oddly enough - To Catch A Thief would be another good example of a Bond-esk Cary Grant role. Also did I read that Cary was the best man at Cubby's wedding?

Too bad they couldn't get Bond off the ground in film in 1954 with Grant. That would've given him a few years to make the role, then pass it to Connery in 1962. Would've been interesting to see that changing of the guard.

The funny thing is that Lazenby's voice when he isn't dubbed with George Baker (Sir Hilary) actually reminds me a bit of Grant's - he was given voice coaching to tone down his Australian accent and ended up with something not unlike Grant's signature transatlantic staccato manner of speaking.

Cary was indeed Cubby's best man. They shared plenty of mutual friends. Him as Bond is one of the great "what ifs" of the series.

On another note - something I've been thinking about now in retrospect considering the standstill of the series is that it was wrong to delay SPECTRE for Sam Mendes. Perhaps it would have been better to settle on another director and get the film out in 2014 as intended.

Then we'd be at the same point (uncertainty about Craig, no distributor, etc...) but they'd have a better bargaining plea. They could get Mendes back, refreshed after having a break, which would probably also secure Craig (or vice versa) and present a winning team to a potential distributor. Bond 25 could then happen in 2017 as Craig's final film (with Mendes directing) and the 55th Anniversary. He could retire at 49 and then we could all move on happily.

As much as these recent articles like to pretend an announcement is imminent, we still don't have a distributor and I'm willing to bet EON still wants to hold out a bit for Craig. Sometimes I wish MGM would let the series go because their greed with it as their only money maker is what causes all these delays.

James Mason eh?  Yknow what, they might've missed a trick there, he'd be a brilliant Bond.  Bit short though.  Oliver Reed was lined up for the job at one point too.

According to director Terrence Young, James Mason said he wouldn't do anymore than two films so they shelved that idea. He's another good "what if" Bond.

Bond was to be a bunch of films from the get go then?

Yes as Saltzman had bought the rights to all the Fleming novels and shorts (except Casino Royale which had been sold elsewhere). I do not believe anyone could have predicted it running into twenty-four films though!

But now imagine it with Fassbender's natural Irish accent. I'm having Brosnan flashbacks here. ;)

Or, just imagine Fassbender doing it as Lt. Archie Hicox, going out "speaking the King's". ;)

Bond with his bollocks out?

I was thinking Scottish accent, ginger and short. But he's done everything else, Trainspotting, Star Wars, riding motorcycles across the world. What's next? McGregor, Ewan McGregor, license to chill.

If Bond goes CGI then Statham is a low budget star to carry. You have martinis spinning in 3D with him rolling around with a AK with Keira Knightley as Miss Moneypussy, the evil rogue double agent.

Double post/don't care

Just stole this from a comment on a youtube video (this one in particular), but if the Bond writers are struggling for material for the next film they should just take from real life - a villain that somehow becomes President of the United States. Normally that would be completely unrealistic, even for a Bond movie, but wouldn't it be awesome to see Bond go against the President?!:lol::lol:

Joking aside (since we know Swift would never get a Bond song), I reckon if Hiddleston lands the role we'll hear non-stop Swift fans all over the web stirring up rumours that she'll be doing the next song and swear she'd be perfect for it.

Luckily they'll be broken up by the time he's announced.
