Unfortunately, you are absolutely correct. It's inevitable that we're gonna get a black or metrosexual James Bond next, and at that point you can wave to Fonzie on his water skis because the franchise will be irrevocably changed. 3 hours ago, HeartbreakerWoman said: Daniel Craig will always be James Putin It is a valid observation/criticism that Craig comes across as a Russian gangster more so than an English secret agent on the big screen.

He does not have the look or charisma. James Bond even in the novels was cold blooded, but he was also high society, liking of fine things and charismatic. This guy just seems like he'd fit better in the 70s KGB than he does modern day MI6. The closest to novel Bond, both in look and in manner, will always be Dalton. Dalton looks almost exactly like the drawings Fleming drew of Bond for reference. Edited September 7, 2016 by HeartbreakerWoman

It takes Fleming's story and plunks it into the Bond film formula.

James Bond
Back on the topic of Craig's return, this is most intriguing: http://festival.newyorker.com/event/daniel-craig-talks-nicholas-schmidle/ He's doing a live talk next month. Surely he'll answer some questions about Bond 25?

DR DOOM
I previously scoffed at Hiddleston's name being in the hat but I recently saw The Night Watchman and I'm converted. I hate to admit it, but I pretty much agree with Miser on Craig as Bond...can't dig it.
James Bond
@DR DOOM The thing with Miser is he'd say shit like "Daniel Craig isn't like the novels" and then point to characteristics of the film Bond that Craig didn't have. Then he'd say Casino Royale is like a Bourne film which is laughable as well. His criticisms were so invalid that I wasn't convinced he'd read a Bond novel or seen Casino Royale.

Crazyman
@James Bond your sig reminded me - I just re-watched North by Northwest recently (been going on a Cary Grant binge). It just reinforcement my sadness that we didn't live in a universe where he could've played Bond at least once.

Also, if you're on a Cary Grant binge and haven't seen Charade, check it out. It feels like a spiritual successor to North By Northwest and it also has Audrey Hepburn. I feel like he would've been the Bond that Moore wanted to be - total ladies man with smooth lines who could also pack a punch if needed. I actually just started Charade a few nights ago but fell asleep and am planning on finishing it tonight. So far I think I've seen: North By Northwest, His Girl Friday, To Catch A Thief, An Affair to Remember, Indiscreet, Penny Serenade, Monkey Business and That Touch Of Mink. I have Charade, Notorious, Suspicion, Father Goose, Operation Petticoat and Topper on tap.

What a great drama and he's fantastic in it. It's a shame it doesn't get talked about more. I love Suspicion even though it's generally considered his weakest Hitchcock film, but the dialogue and chemistry make it which is surprisingly since he and Joan Fontaine apparently didn't get along at all. The on tap list is actually a bit larger (including the Philadelphia Story and Bringing Up Baby) but I've only included the movies I either already own or have found for free Agree about An Affair To Remember. The ending is quite incredible! I actually started watching Notorious too the other day but haven't gotten very far in it yet. I gotta pick up on more early era Grant movies.
James Bond
@Crazyman The only real ones to avoid at all costs are Born To Be Bad and People Will Talk. They were his two personal least favourites and for good reason. Terrible! Otherwise, you can't go wrong with some Cary Grant. The great thing is so many of his films are easily found for free, like you said. YouTube is a wonderful thing. I physically own probably 20 of them and still have a long way to go.
Crazyman
I was thinking of going the physical route but the movies I purchased were digital (first time I really have done that). I hope Bringing Up Baby is in good quality - that's the only downside to streaming off Youtube
