The James Bond Thread: RIP Robbie Coltrane

The Gunbarrel in FYEO was great, but the rest you expect bush. Kamen's score was all cues.

What I really loved was the orchestrated or piano driver variant of the theme song. Nobody Does It Better, All Time High and The Living Daylights. The one for AVTK was laughable because you can't help but hear the Duran Duran song, which was awesome. I really haven't noticed much in Arnold's work.

I am yet to experience the worse of it for DAD.

Does FRWL actually have a PTS? I'm struggling to remember, but I could swear it was titles, then into the film like Dr. No....

Come on, P5. That was when Bond puts flowers on Tracy's grave and off to see M but it was Blofeld controlling the helicopter than Bond takes control and drops Blofeld down a chimney.

Oi! I was tired when I wrote that

It falls somewhere around Thunderball on my list.

Pre-title to Die Another Day is just as long as Skyfall's.My god was a horrible title song. The Spanish steps and the autotune. What shit. It starts off well but It will turn to shit when we get to Halle Berry

And when we first see Halle's tits you might as well pop the disc out of your Blu Ray player

The first 25 mins was so promising other than Madonna.

She was wearing one hell of a bra during the clinic sequence.

The movie was atrocious. It was terrible on so many levels. What's with the random slow mo? When Zao walks by Halle Barry strapped to a table it was in slow motion. And the scene were she is supposedly getting tortured, sounds like a pornstar. No disrepect to porn actresses, they are much better than Halle Barry.

So what's worse, DAD or NSNA? :P

I suppose. I think I need to watch QoS first but I am comfortable with making one.

I can see her having a small role. I like this trend of exotic looking woman Craig is bagging.

Caterina Marino, Eva Green, Berenice Marlhoe, Tonia Sotiropoulu. Just keep looking around the Mediterranean, and Caribbean.

1. Skyfall

3. Casino Royale

4. From Russia with Love

5. Licence to Kill

10. The Spy Who Loved Me

11. Octopussy

12. GoldenEye

13. For Your Eyes Only

The Brosnan films were not as difficult to get through as I thought. Die Another Day was the toughest of them all. TWINE was a little boring, TND and GE were rather exciting. DAD was just out there. Gene therapy, invisible cars and yes the CGI tital wave. Halle Barry is a horrible actress. I don't care if she's won an Oscar, she just can't act. Her attempts to be sexy and bad ass are pathetic. It is obvious she was cast to bring in more viewers because lets face it, Brosnan's films were only moderately successful. They simply could not build upon GoldenEye. For the 40th they just crammed as many Bond references they could, load it with product placements and hoped Halle will bring in American audiences. There hasn't been a successful American release since Moonraker. Maybe that is why DAD was over the top?

The timing couldn't have been any poorer since DAD came out after 9/11 and Americans were ready for something grittier, realistic yet with the same escapism. They got that with Jason Bourne.

I don't understand how MI6 didn't realize Miranda was the traitor. M is susicious about Graves, Miranda swears he is clean, Bond is suspicious, finds out Miranda is MI6 and nothing thought she was in league with him. And the background of her as an Olympic athlete and somehow Moon met her at one point. That didn't show up in the screening? Bond going through an entire film without knowing Moneypenny's name is one thing but that was just pure intelligence fuck up.

I just think franchises can wind up becoming campy and running out of steam, and both had happened to the Bond franchise. There's a handful of guys who could do it, Daniel Craig was a good pick in my opinion, Clive Owen & Gerard Butler were prob. on the short list. Now he's getting up in years for doing it, he's older than Craig. Craig's 44 and could go another decade as Bond easily.

I don't think they'll ever give it to an American actor, but could go for another Australian, depending on the director.

Wonder who the next director's going to be... Danny Boyle or Guy Ritchie would be my guess.

I wouldn't mind if they got Matthew Vaughn. He directed Craig before in Layer Cake. I think he's a little tied up with projects for the next couple of years though. Still, my number one choice is to get Campbell back. The stuff he's directed outside of Bond has been hit or miss, but he's given us GoldenEye and Casino Royale. That's a decent enough track record for me, plus John Logan should be able to deliver a solid script to work with.

Rupert Wyatt seems available. He has done a few films but he has a good feel for action and character development. Unless they tap him for Dawn of the Planet of the Apes which is due for a release date next year I think he should do it.

Vaughan and Boyle would be great too. I think Joe Wright and Alfonso Cuaron would be interesting but I am afraid Cuaron would be another Forster. Art house directors can be good or bad for a franchise. Mendes doesn't seem to have an ego looking to stamp his name to a franchise like Forster with QoS or Cuaron with Harry Potter. It helps that Craig is actually a good actor and would have creative involvement. Barbara and Michael are not Cubby when Cubby was enough to be the creative force behind a Bond picture and they just pick a director to follow their orders. They need someone who is creative yet respects the Bond elements.
