The James Bond Thread: RIP Robbie Coltrane

PIerce would've been a good Bond had they not made those last 3 movies the way they did.

We've talked about it a bunch in this thread, but if Die Another Day didn't turn into shit once Bond gets to Cuba, he might've ranked higher for me. Oh well, I'm just glad we have Craig now.

Some news...good and bad for Bond 24.

Filming will be delayed until December while there's a script re-write going on. Purvis and Wade are both being brought back to add "punch" to the script.

The source is the Daily Mail, but I still have a feeling it's true. I really, really hope they don't go back to the Brosnan-era scripts...

The Mail hasn't been all bad for Bond news over the years so this is possible, but I won't fully believe it yet.

Granted, Purvis and Wade didn't do all bad with Casino Royale so if it's only to help out on a few things then we should feel comfortable with the decision. Now, if it were only Purvis and Wade involved...

Watched Diamonds are Forever last night - Christ it's awful, so cheap looking and cheesy. Not helped by Connery's obvious wig.

Live and Let Die tonight, better movie in every way.

Diamonds Are Forever is the worst Connery film. I like LALD, but I think it's overrated.

You doing a Bondathon?

As much as I like Live and Let Die I do have to laugh at certain things in it. My favourite "unintentionally funny" scene is the very first one at the UN where the guy has a seizure and dies in front of everyone and nobody reacts

That is the UN for you.

I think what I like most about the film is how hard they tried to keep Moore from looking like he was doing Connery. Having M meet him at his flat instead of M's office, the cigar smoking instead of cigarettes. They even give him a .44 magnum though he did use the PPK. Also he wore no hat but hats became unfashionable in the 70's.

Anybody else love License to Kill? Might be the grittiest Bond flick ever and Robert Davi was a dope villain.

Criminally underrated by most, though I like how it gets its due around here. Great film, not to mention Dalton is underrated as Bond in general.

Most people act like LTK is an abomination. Most people are stupid when it comes to Bond films.

I'll be surprised if Bond 24 is out a year from December, it all depends on how much post production they have to do and how much CGI's involved.

The villain is supposed to be "A classic physically imposing character who has several altercations with Bond throughout the mission", so they're going with the brawn this time around. I also read that Daniel Radcliffe wants to be a Bond villain. It's always interesting to see the cars, girls and who's doing the theme song. Hopefully things go smooth.

For Skyfall, they announced the title exactly a year before it's US release (About 50 weeks before the UK release), and started filming the following week. They're by no means behind schedule yet, we're almost 14 months from US release.

Considering the script rewrites, I hope so too. It'll be interesting to see if they can get it done in time for that original release date.

The good thing is that they usually get the movie finished in a year (I just took a look at the past 3 movie timelines), and by the time they shoot the film, sets have been built, stuntmen are ready to go, the lead actors are in top shape (which can take months for someone who lives a high maintenance and high cholesterol lifestyle).

The second crew is shooting a lot of the other stuff like the chase scenes while the main cast is at Pinewood. Most of the documentaries have gone into the set designs and stuntwork being the hardest part of a Bond movie, and occasional equipment malfunctions.
