The James Bond Thread: RIP Robbie Coltrane

You know, QoS wasn't that bad of a movie, even with those script rewrites. It's the editing with the constant quick shots that ruins it for me. I think regardless, CR would've been the better movie, but if you got a competent director and editing team on that and it would be a fine Bond movie.

I agree. Nothing really wrong with the story, other than a weak villain in Greene. And even for how underwhelming the cinematography was, it still produced the opera scene, which is one of the best scenes in the series visually IMO.

They need to bring back Mr. White, he was such a boss in CR and QOS.

Anybody else love License to Kill? Might be the grittiest Bond flick ever and Robert Davi was a dope villain.

Criminally underrated by most, though I like how it gets its due around here. Great film, not to mention Dalton is underrated as Bond in general.

Most people act like LTK is an abomination. Most people are stupid when it comes to Bond films.

Has anyone ever read the books? Thinking of starting them.

Read them all. Favourites are, Casino Royale, From Russia With Love and Moonraker (which has nothing in common with the film). In general, they are nastier and more sadistic than the films, usually grittier with some excursions to pulp (Dr No, You Only Live Twice). Bond himself is played straight; the comedy is an invention of the films. The novels' characterisation is close to, Dalton's version. You can start anywhere but running through them in order might be a good idea. You can buy big omnibus editions for next to nothing.

Fleming wrote in Bond's Scottish heritage because it is a good character flaw.

Haha

And then Connery repaid, being turned into Her Majesty's greatest defender, a symbol of Britain and British global power, by, ehh, becoming a SNP supporter! It always struck me as hypocritical considering he lives in the Caribbean.

I've read Casino Royale, Live And Let Die, and Moonraker so far. Think I'm gonna start Diamonds Are Forever soon. They're easy reads, but also enjoyable. Casino Royale is my favorite so far.

I have read Casino Royale, Live and Let Die, Moonraker, From Russia with Love, Goldfinger and For Your Eyes only (a collection of short stories) I started Diamonds are Forever but didn't finish it.

Of those my favourite is probably Casino. Moonraker and From Russia with Love are also very good. From what I understand Fleming planned to kill Bond in From Russia with Love because the series had not really been very successful up until then, but then the novel proved to be a huge success so he brought him back
