Hey Marc,

Were you at this performance?

Pretty damn cool imo. From your perspective, what was Izzy and Slash's relationship like? From back in the beginning days all the way to today? Were they buddies or was there tension or both? Some perspective and any cool stories would be greatly appreciated!

I missed the gig, I didn't know about it. I think it happened too fast and they thought there would be more gigs with that lineup. Too Bad Izzy didn't hang around it would have been very interesting.

When we first met Izzy in 1984 I don't think he liked Slash that much and moved on. A year latter when Slash was back in the band, once Izzy saw that Slash had a friend that would be willing to put money in the band he stayed around the second time. While the rest of the band were my friends (Izzy was too far gone on dope to make a new friend) (In 1989 when Izzy got sober was the first time he looked me in the eye as a friend.) Also soon after Slash was back Izzy found out that Slash and him could write together and it was a good thing. After Izzy and his girlfriend got Slash hooked on dope, they became dope buddies. When Izzy got clean I don't think he wanted much to do with Slash. Now they are friends because they are both sober.

Do you think he felt guilty for bringing heroin into the band? If he hadn't, do you think the outcome of the band being down to Axl would've still happened? When he broke up with his girlfriend, was it because he wanted to get clean and she was dragging him down?

No she was under age and Tom Zutaut from geffen records didn't want her around few a few different reasons. hard to tell what would have happened to the band in the end if drugs we not an issue. In my opinion Izzy leaving the band was the biggest reason that band didn't stay together after that.

I think you interviewed her for the book, how'd her life turn out?

Also, what was the reasons why Izzy came back in the mid-late 90s, and did you see him a lot at the time? Do you think he wanted back in the band?

She is still a junkie, She almost died a few years ago of a heart attack. I didn't see Izzy in the mid 90's but I think he was looking to get in on the writing process only. If they had listened to me if may have worked. I wanted them to go into a room together and write like they did back in 85/86 where everyone builds on the riff that one of them came up with. I think the problem was they really didn't like each other anymore so that magic was gone. I think you have to enjoy what you're doing to be able to make good music

Marc, Do you know how Axl felt about the entire band (including Izzy) joining together to write music at the beginning of VR?

Also do you think that version (excluding Scott) would have worked better with Izzy & Duff taking over the vocals?

Izzy fronting VR would have been a great band the only problem is Izzy is way too flakey to have stuck around long enough to make it work but I think Scott also did a good job when he first got there. Still would have been very cool to hear a few songs with Izzy involved. Izzy, Slash, and Duff working together is always going to be something good. You get Rock N' Roll mixed with Hard Rock/with some funk and lots of Punk. Its not really the same as old GNR because you would always need Axl's imput but it would have been the next best thing

I've always thought that they should have done something together. I think Izzy/Duff/Slash/Matt would've been a fantastic band in the studio - maybe having Gilby tour in Izzy's place. Duff and Izzy could've handled vocals.
