Guest Len B'stard Posted August 30, 2012 Posted August 30, 2012 No one cuz there ain't no rock n roll no more. Quote

dalsh327 Posted August 30, 2012 Posted August 30, 2012 Chuck Berry Maybelllene came out in the summer of 55, Heartbreak Hotel came out in Jan 1956. Chuck crossed over R&B with country first, and wrote his own songs. Elvis was the one who was able to bring R&B to mainstream America, but he was pretty adaptable in a variety of music, and could do way more with his voice. He could be a crooner as much as a rocker, and Chuck was an okay but not great singer. Only better singer than him was Orbison. Quote

Probably the best frontman of the era. Quote
mrandyk Posted August 30, 2012 Posted August 30, 2012 Without knowing too much about anyone from the 50s, I'd go Chuck Berry. Elvis may have been an incredible entertainer, but I do not like having him as the king of rock n' roll at all. Quote
MB. Posted August 30, 2012 Posted August 30, 2012 Yes he is!Ofcourse there were people with more talent, but he is the one who achieved most fame. His voice was incredible, he looked great, he had it all! I love Elvis Quote

That's boogie woogie roots, which is def. a part of rock. Quote
DieselDaisy Posted August 30, 2012 Posted August 30, 2012 It is either Chuck or Elvis for me - nobody else comes even close. I am happy for Elvis, having that accolade. Chuck, Chuck does challange it (the songwriting thing) but they are both absolute legends. Quote
