Why Tokyo '92?

Hey Marc,

Why did GN'R choose to release only the Tokyo '92 shows, out of all the nearly 200 other UYI tour shows they could've chosen to release? IMO there are a ton of shows just in '92 alone that were ten times better than Tokyo. I actually think Tokyo is one of the poorer shows from the UYI tour yet it's the only one the band released officially while still together. Why is this?

Also, were there ever any plans on the band's part (before Slash quit) to release other shows from the 80s or 90s?

I could have been that they had a deal to put that show out before they did the gig. The only plan of getting something out was a GNR movie from the UYI tour and that was being shopped around in 1994. I saw the trailer for it. It opened with It's so easy. Too bad it all fell apart. It would have been a cool documentary with lots of live footage.

Paris and Chicago live shows were much better

Marc - do you know how the Chicago 1992 concert got out? I've heard the master tape was stolen from a concert.

Also - did Axl or the band perform differently when there was a camera crew around, or did they just kind of do their thing regardless?

The Chicago 1992 tape and a few others got out. Sometimes people get a hold of a gig and then it gets out. As far as I know they taped all the gigs on the whole tour.

is there a vault for all the material? i mean......all the material combined should take lots of space, right?

and who has access to it? just the Axl camp? for example if Slash or Duff would re-visit the longest GN'R show they've ever did @Inglewood August 03, 1991....could they get a copy or see it in the "vault's cinema room" or so?

I'm sure they have it save somewhere. I don't know if Slash could get it them or not. However I have my own taping of those Forum gigs, but Slash doesn't care about that kind of stuff. He even forgot that I shot the old gig on video. About a years ago he was telling me that someone had a video of a Roxy gig and he thought I would want to see it. When I told him that I was the one who shot it, he looked a bit confused.
