Coma16 Posted September 7, 2012 Posted September 7, 2012 Has Slash played either Locomotive or Coma since he's been solo or even in VR? Many people consider these both as "Slash songs" so it would make sense, no? I hope he busts one of these out in Toronto at the end of the month. Locomotive is more realistic as Myles (or anyone really) would have trouble with the vocals. What other GNR songs do you wish he played instead of the ones he does? DTJ is def up there!
Free Bird Posted September 7, 2012 Posted September 7, 2012 (edited) I think these songs aren't easy to play, even for GNR back than. Axl had his problems with the vocals (at least during the end of Coma) and instrumentally its not so easy aswell. I remember to have had read something like Izzy complained about the complexity of coma. Edited September 8, 2012 by Free Bird
dalsh327 Posted September 7, 2012 Posted September 7, 2012 I guess it would be one to ask Slash if Myles can do it. I think he'd need Duff though. Coma's only complex for the person singing it.
SONOFABITCH Posted September 7, 2012 Posted September 7, 2012 I bet Myles could do it. It would be worth a try anyway. I would love to hear Slash play the Coma solo live. It is amazing.
Crash Diet Posted September 7, 2012 Posted September 7, 2012 I would like to hear Locomotive again in Slash version
gunsfanoldie Posted September 7, 2012 Posted September 7, 2012 There is a lack of Use Your Illusion material in both touring bands (Slash and GNR, although Axl seems to have become alittle more open with that stuff. Still missing a huge amount of deep cuts though). Overall, I think in terms of Slash, he's not a big fan of the whole sound of those albums. It wasn't "true" GNR in his opinion and doesn't mesh as well with the style his band plays, unlike how Appetite definitely does. That doesn't say I agree with him, as he's woefully excluding all GNR stuff not Appetite on his tour which is a shame because so many deep cuts on Use Your Illusion would be amazing to hear live. Right Next Door To Hell, Bad Apples, Bad Obsession, Breakdown, Locomotive. I think Slash just doesn't have as fond of memories about those albums so he excludes playing alot of them. He knows he can't get away with not playing Appetite stuff. Would love to see him add some of this material to the setlist, but overall can't complain because the shows still kick ass without them.
ShadowOfTheWave Posted September 7, 2012 Posted September 7, 2012 Great let's get Myles to ruin even more GNR songs. I hope Axl sues for Slash causing damage to the music's worth if that happens.

ColdHeartBreaker Posted September 7, 2012 Posted September 7, 2012 I strongly doubt Myles could hold a candle to Axl's coma or locomotive. Wouldn't work.
vaida Posted September 7, 2012 Posted September 7, 2012 Both songs are long. Both are what I call bloated, and could use some trimming. Either way, Slash's work on both songs is excellent as always.
dalsh327 Posted September 7, 2012 Posted September 7, 2012 I strongly doubt Myles could hold a candle to Axl's coma or locomotive. Wouldn't work. It's not about holding a candle, or a jockstrap.
moreblack Posted September 7, 2012 Posted September 7, 2012 (edited) I hope Axl sues for Slash causing damage to the music's worth if that happens. He'd have to sue his own wedding and vegas playing phoney ass first, several times over. Edited September 7, 2012 by moreblack

Axl lyrics? yes.Axl vocals? also.Axl songs? no. I would say GNR's.

Actually they perform the music perfectly, one of the complaints against them has been they are too technical. Edited September 7, 2012 by ShadowOfTheWave

Where/when they play said music, is a factor in damaging the music's worth.

If they tried to improvise or do their own style on them it would be because they didn't write and more than likely couldn't improve it. They aren't the guys who wrote the songs so playing them perfectly is the way to not damage the music's worth.

LA_0013 Posted September 7, 2012 Posted September 7, 2012 (edited) Locomotive and Coma.... 2 of the greatest rock song outros ever'Looooves, so strange....'Thanks Slash..... Edited September 7, 2012 by LA_0013
jmapelian Posted September 7, 2012 Posted September 7, 2012 I strongly doubt Myles could hold a candle to Axl's coma or locomotive. Wouldn't work. The one time I heard GnR do Coma live, Axl was sucking wind during the end vocal and he was in his 20's then - Myles would kill it now and Axl wouldn't even try it

DTJ is def up there!Well, Coma hasn't been performed since 1993 and Locomotive since 1991 but Slash used to jam Locomotive in 1997-1998 with Slash's Blues Ball. I had the bootleg sold in Japan that contained the jam, it was after the end of Funk #49 or something like that (the jam was basically the last 3 minutes of Locomotive -- powerful riff + outro). I stole it from my uncle's collection along with other things Gn'R related Sad for me, he discovered and asked my mother for that bootleg in particular. This was like 10 years ago. When I asked him few years ago in my trip to Japan he said he has no idea where the bootleg is and now it's impossible to find.
