rudolf1978
I just realized that Iron Maiden will play Donington again ( last time was 2007) but will be there celebrating the 25th aniversary of Monsters of Rock 88,in that show you may already know, Guns N Roses were in the bill, and started his career of success in Europe and then the world. But what do we have now? Iron Maiden a band around his 60s,playing amazing shows, big stage, huge fan-base,and fill every stadium they play ,( stockolm in 15 minutes). And Guns n roses? we say that GNR are big,but when i see other bands like Iron Maiden,i realize that something is going wrong, and they are far from being huge again. Axl_morris
oddly enough, Iron Maiden are more well known outside of the UK. I'm always seeing GNR on TV, but not iron maiden. To answer your question, the band members changing and the lack of material to support 25 years of the band with years of silence has been the reason. volcano62
The only problem i have with Maiden is too much "galloping" riffs.I do like a lot of Maiden music though.....at least 20 songs (however not a good ratio considering how many albums they have)They have too many albums..... Powerage5
In terms of a worldwide phenomenon, Iron Maiden are the biggest band in the world right now. You can argue with me all you want but the facts stand; there is nothing Iron Maiden can't do right now. 6 years ago it would've been absolutely unthinkable for any band to tour out of a 757 as Maiden do on their "Around the World" legs of a tour - let alone with a member of the band piloting the aircraft. In Europe, South America, and Asia, Maiden are guaranteed to sell out any venue of any size. In North America, they're well on their way to achieving that as well - many shows on this Summer's North American tour were sold out and it was their most extensive North American tour since 1992 at that. There is nowhere Maiden can't play (Within reason of course) - they were the first metal band to play India, and have since visited the UAE, Singapore, South Korea, Indonesia, and every country in South America as well (And they're working on China!). Not to mention The Final Frontier, which went to number one in 35 countries as well - how many bands can put that on their resume 35 years into their career? It amazes me that they've bounced back from total obscurity less than 15 years ago to where they are now - even the early tours after Bruce and Adrian rejoined in 1999 were only moderate successes. I got into Maiden right at the turning point, when they really started to build up their fanbase again so for me its been a really amazing ride these past 7 years, just seeing things get bigger and bigger every tour. dalsh327
Maiden hasn't always hit it out of the park over the years, but the core of the band stayed intact. I think it helped that Bruce always had something going on outside of music and leaving when he did was prob. for the best. Coming back and keeping Janick did a lot to kick their asses in gear for the 21st century. What I think Maiden does that's really cool is one "hits" tour, and one tour focused on new music. The size of the audience might have to do with Maiden touring more than GNR over the years. Some of my favorite artists play theaters, so I don't base venue size on show quality. It's just good that people are still turning out to see them, and neither of them have to play some half empty club and scraping by in life. You might not like the fact that GN'R released a record a mere 4 years back and is touring successfully across the globe, yet it is undeniably more than most bands from 1985 do. That is a fact. Of course we can find singular bands that do even better, like Iron Maiden, but reality is that most bands do a lot, lot worse. I've made the point that GNR needed a long break from each other for about a decade, if they had just not said anything in the press from 1995-2005, Slash, Duff, and Izzy prob. would be touring with Axl right now. Would they still have the mojo to be played on the radio though, would "Fall to Pieces" or "Better" worked with them? Don't know the answer to that. I think the whole imagery with Eddie and the music appeaking to the geek.sci fi element helped with having a Gen X/Y/Z fanbase. You had soccer mom vans full of kids sporting Maiden t-shirts at the shows, and you still have a dedicated fanbase of Maiden fans around the world. Keep in mind, Maiden was also breaking through to countries where Western music was in the black market and eventually playing those countries.
