volcano62 Posted October 2, 2012 Posted October 2, 2012 I know it's only his second TV appearance but bloody hell you'd never have anticipated all this from Axl Rose just a couple of years ago! What has changed? Is it money or maybe Axl is becoming more confident, at peace or mellowing out a little? Regardless, good on him is what I say anyway!Chinese Democracy failure. What failure? It sold millions....

Regardless, good on him is what I say anyway!Chinese Democracy failure. What failure? It sold millions....So did the movie Waterworld. Actually, I think Waterworld is a good comparison with Chinese Democracy, in that both were massively over budget, both took far longer than expected, both involved a revolving door of producers/directors, and both were financially successful despite the reputation of being failures. Ultimately, for most people who don't know any better, the album is considered a major flop. Doesn't matter that it sold millions (though exactly, we don't know). That's the general perception and how it will be viewed outside of the hardcore faithful. As for why Axl is being more candid with the media of late, I'm not too sure why. Perhaps it is indeed Beta prompting him to get out there more. Maybe in this case the Hard Rock upped his guarantee based on a promotional effort by himself and the band. Maybe he just feels like it and wants to ensure a full house for each and every show. In the end, it doesn't really matter why, so long as he's doing it.
Val22 Posted October 2, 2012 Posted October 2, 2012 I think Axl is sick and tired of being misquoted, so now he's speaking for himself.Hopefully, JK will allow him to talk and not out talk him with stupid remarks.I would just for once love to see an interview where Axl can answer the question without being interrupted.Hopefully, Axl also feels more confident in talking about GNR now and what their plans are.Doing the Las Vegas shows is a great way to show critics and people who haven't seen them in awhile to see how good this band is and that Axl Rose is still an amazing singer and performer.
Jeez Posted October 2, 2012 Posted October 2, 2012 (edited) Just the name Guns N' Roses doesn't draw as big crowds any more, so he has to do something else to get people's attention to go on his concerts.LOL! He does ONE interview, after 20 years, at the END of a how many year long tour? And you try say he does this to promote them? HAHAI think if Axls' goal was to promote, he'd do bit more than one interview in 20 years - at the end of a tour.I think you need to check you facts anyway, they're selling out stadiums. Cruel Intentions Posted October 2, 2012 Posted October 2, 2012 Honestly, I think this is all about the money and his management crew wanting him to get out there and do some type of promotion. Don't get me wrong, I'll still take any new interview from Axl that I can get. I just don't believe this is anything bigger than him simply doing some promotion for the Vegas shows since they haven't sold out yet.He has seemed more open with the media lately, though, which would make sense to do if he's really serious when he said this tour/lineup is so important to him for them to do well.

Nosaj Thing Posted October 3, 2012 Posted October 3, 2012 I think SLAA got too excited about this 15-minute interview. More open? Yeah right. That said, I'd love to see Axl in the spotlight.

Ok, it is a big deal. ; ) Edited October 3, 2012 by brainsaber

axlslash Posted October 3, 2012 Posted October 3, 2012 Just the name Guns N' Roses doesn't draw as big crowds any more, so he has to do something else to get people's attention to go on his concerts. The name Guns N' Roses filled a club in a city that hates him (Philly) in a week with precisely no promotion back in February. The GNR name pulls as much weight as pretty much anyone not in the same league as the Stones and McCartney at this point. Not sure that's a huge concern.I think he's just been progressing since 02. That was the bottom. Progressively, he's gotten more accessible in person, more light-hearted on stage, he got Twitter...dude's just figuring out how to be a modern rock star, I'd say.

All that 'I can remember right back to the point of conception' crap was a bit embarrassing at the time.
