Amazing Intro !

to me this intro begins with prostitute and then goes into a more elaborate general..

didn't listen to the whole intro, but the part i skipped to was the theme song from mad men, so i'm not sure if maybe that's what you're mistakenly referring to as 'the general,' or perhaps i skipped over something else...

Only saving his voice so it will last a whole tour. We know what happened during the 90s when he blew out his voice. Maybe with age he has realized he can't go to hard on the rasp if he is to be able to last through a whole tour? I don't know, but I certainly find that theory more plausible than the "can't bother" hypothesis.

I feel confident Axl is trying to and wants to do his best every time he walks up on a stage. He even did two gigs when he was feeling ill, right before 12 gigs in Vegas. Doesn't sound like a man who's saving his voice or who can't be bothered.

Not to mention he keeps on booking new tours all the time, rather than making albums. Saving his voice? Nah.

Oh, I am certain he wants to give his best, but not if it means blowing out his voice so he will be really bad for the rest of the tour...

So how was he able to sing from December 2009 to December 2010 with full rasp and no problems?

IMO Axl still has the full force rasp like when singing WTTJ but he's lacking the mid-range rasp like when singing PC... I think he can do it when he wants but agree that its probably a straining issue with his voice and he doesnt want to blow his voice out. I do not believe it is an effort thing, one thing about Axl no matter what time he hits the stage he gives his all.

any reports on the voice? compared to acoustic shows recently?

There is a review from Loudwire earlier in the thread. His voice was praised.

Here it is again:

Guns N’ Roses Kick Off Las Vegas Residency on Halloween Night

by: Graham "Gruhamed" Hartmann 29 minutes ago

Guns N’ Roses have kicked off their nearly monthlong residency in Las Vegas. Beginning on Halloween night, the band ripped through a set where singer Axl Rose gave a far greater performance than he has at recent shows.

After a highly criticized performance by Axl Rose at Neil Young’s annual Bridge School benefit show, which was widely distributed online at the expense of Rose, the singer proved that he can still deliver a quality vocal show at this first Vegas show. Additionally, the city of Las Vegas celebrated the Guns N’ Roses residency by temporarily renaming Paradise Road as Paradise City Road.

The band ripped through a 29-song set that included covers of Pink Floyd’s ‘Another Brick in the Wall Pt 2′ and Neil Young’s ‘Don’t Let It Bring You Down.’ The show also allowed band members Tommy Stinson and Bumblefoot to take lead vocals on their own original songs.

Yes the strep throat obviously didn't help the charity shows but considering people (including review sites who usually go for the obligatory slating of the band/Axl's performance) are saying he sounded good last night it suggests that he was probably holding back quite a bit during them considering how gash he sounded.

That Jungle sounds really good. If I was going to one of the VEgas shows, I'd find such a start really promising.

Exactly. And that's how those of us who are going are looking at it.

As usual, it's the ones NOT going who are sitting around complaining about things on the internet. Go figure.

I mentioned that earlier in the thread. It is pretty much this way in the US, the have-nots are envious, and our current administration and culture in the US cultivates envy and divisiveness and it spills over everywhere. I wish everyone could go to these shows, but it is not the way it is.

Its a good time to be a fan of this band. Lots of good stuff going on. I am just glad they didnt go too much AFD and drop Estranged or Civil war.

Listen to those screams on Live and Let Die! He sustains them very well. The verses were a bit weak here and there but overall that was a powerful performance of the song.

Another Brick in the Wall is fantastic. November Rain isnt as good as Jungle or LALD but doesnt sound worrisome or anything. Richard's solo there wasnt as smooth as it usually is.
