Unknown setlists 1985-1993

Hi Marc. Something that have bothered me for a long time, is the lack of information on these shows and somewhat impossible to find any complete or accurate setlists to online. I'm sure I'm not the only one who is curious to get the right information. The total lack of information on this, is what I hope someday will be completed. But with your or anybody elses help, I hope to be able to complete a full overview of GnR's shows from 1985-1993.

There's also similar problems with the pre-GnR bands, but the main thing is GnR! :-D

This should be the complete list of every show that's been confirmed to have been played - some may have the wrong date or place, I hope to get it cleared up.

If you have any information about the setlist of these shows, I would be eternally greatful  for any information you can contribute to.

I'm in no hurry to get this information, but if or when you have the time to help with whatever you know, this would be greatfully appreciated! B-)

I have at least some of these setlists in my database, you can access it here: http://www.a-4-d.com/ (drop down box a bit down on the right of the side).

Thanks, I think I'm gone through a lot of websites with the setlists from the shows, like gnrontour.com, setlist.fm, and in general use of google search - I put together a GnR live show blog to use in my native language - Danish, but the setlists should be no problem to get from here. I'm a bit nerdy for this projects of gathering everything I can about the info of the shows (mostly pictures, venue info, start/end times, videos, etc..) but it's a time-consuming project, and I'm sure I've made a lot of mistakes underways with the available facts.

Right now I'm going through the 2006 shows - a lot of the info I have I forgot to give credit - but I'm trying to give credit to those who provide info to a show (I have made a great credit-list currently not published).

Look here what I have so far on the shows from GnR 1985-1993: http://live.gnfnr.dk/#post206 My main site is: http://gnfnr.dk

Feel free to use anything from my site - ask me about anything if you wanna know about something on my site(s) ;-)

Thanks SoulMonster - I have borrowed some of the quotes from the shows and put it on my big list of danish GnR chronology/timeline - I ran into some inconsistancies with some show dates and other stuff, but I hope to have it fixed when I disclose the chronology (a new page in the menu) on my new wordpress blog on my domain here: http://wordpress.gnfnr.dk/

More stuff is coming on the blog eventually - I just got fed up with the old blog one.com is using, and was absolutely thrilled when wordpress now is avalable, making an article even better :-) Hope you like it ;-)

Hi Mickey, I was just checking your site to see if any of those shows listed above had their set lists added and for June 8, 1985 in Seattle, WA you have Move to the City, Reckless Life, Heartbreak Hotel, Shadow of Your Love, Anything Goes listed. I thought this would be a set list we would never find. How did you get it?

I Think Duff wrote about the gig in his book - and then I checked online to see what there was of available info about the show. I don't remember specifically if Marc Canter has mentioned on this forum, but I did use all the information from Marc's book as well - the tour dates and setlist :-) The main part of all listed shows in the setlist comes from gnrontour.com (or form here), but I have done a lot of research on top of that and made my own overview of all available info of the shows. I still need to watch and read up a lot on all the stuff I still have, so there's a lot of work to be done on the setlists :-)

But according to Duff, they only did one show on the "Hell Tour", but it sounds elsewhere, that they could have played one more show - I'm still researching that bit of info :-) (can't remember the date, maybe june 12th or something, as listed on my blog )

I do have a couple of infos for some shows requested here.

Years ago I was responsible for www.gnrsource.com with some friends.

We had a cool tourdiary section and we had stuff organized this way:

Location: Istanbul, Turkey Date: May 26, 1993
Setlist: It's So Easy, Mr. Brownstone, Live And Let Die, Welcome To The Jungle, Yesterdays, Attitude, Double Talkin' Jive, Cornshucker, You Ain't The First, You're Crazy, Used To Love Her, Patience, November Rain, Dead Horse, Drum Solo, You Could Be Mine, Guitar Solo, Sweet Child O' Mine, Don't Cry, Paradise City

Information: Axl stops "Welcome To The Jungle" to talk to the crowd via an interpretor. He doesn't want the people to throw burning things at each other. After "You Ain't The First" he talks again to the crowd to calm them down. "Patience" is again stopped by Axl, he warns the crowd that they better stop throwing thigs or the band will leave the stage. "Cornshucker" was played and it was a very rare performance of that song.

I'll try to get my backup of that site here on this computer and go through the stuff.

Like seriously you didn't know about this website? http://gnrontour.com/

I have the Istanbul show by the way, it's pretty awesome, they play Cornshucker for like 28 seconds though, not the full song.

Used it for years, even wrote to John M for permission to use and translate his info (that was years ago), but he wouldn't have any of it because he was apparantly backstabbed by someone who didn't credit him for his work. I am not afraid to say I have most of my info from there, and then from articles, message boards, and everything available on the internet from years of collecting (and yes from Marc's, Slash's, Duff's and Stevens books aswell). Too bad I didn't collect on sources at that time. I have a lot of stuff I need more info on. I consider John M's site closed, as he has not updated that site for many years - so me, SoulMonster, and who else are carrying the torch forward I hope for the many years to come. Unfortunately the danish GnR fans are not that outspoken about GnR, and it is real difficult to get someone to work with to put together a site to pay tribute to Guns N' Roses from the beginning to today. When I search the internet, there is astonishingly not much information about the band, except for all the boards, and the usual places, to find any news. It's sometimes like trying to find a needle in a haystack, but without everything I have now, I wouldn't dream of wasting my time on running a danish fansite. As long as we cannot get any new stuff/album from Guns N' Roses, then I am satisfied with every bit piece of the puzzle I am missing :-) I'm just glad I don't need to know everything - I am in no way obsessed, but it is a great way to spend my time to try to solve the missing pieces. :-) As long as I'm not crossing the line/copyright infringement. I Cherish every bit of free info I can get my hands on :-)

It's great but incomplete.

Yeah, too bad... :-(

John M's website disappeared for awhile. I used to use it all the time back in my boot-collecting days. And then I found it linked from HTGTH but, not as updated these days and he has not even made use of Canter's info. Still, I think we - geeks, obsessed about this stuff - owe him a debt there as he was basically the only setlist source for years. There is a shitty gnr biography who totally ripped his setlist off (you can tell because it repeats the same errors). It is called The Band That Time Forgot, written by some dick who writes for Terroizer magazine.

I did not disrespect him (I know you did not say that I do), when I tried to ask for his permission at the time, but yeah, it must have been that book that caused him to be somewhat paranoid or protect his work. Anyway, I was really dissapointed, since I consider every bit of information about GnR & related stuff should be free, except for books and videos from the band or related. Since I have most of all the bootlegs (no 'im not hoarding), I pretty much can add the correct setlist, if it's even the right dato or info - a lot of the bootlegs have wrong dates or some are completely the same. But still, I owe John M's site a lot and do have it available on my links, and right now I try to credit sites and people the right way, but it's difficult to try to get permission to use something for free in these times. This is the present list I consider worthy sites to look at - I still need to update it with a couple of new sites, though: http://wordpress.gnfnr.dk/links/

Well I do have some vague memory of contacting him in my boot-collecting days about a boot I had (and he did not) and being snubbed in a fairly dismissive manner. Still, he did a lot of the original work there in creating a setlist almanac.

By the way, the guy who ripped-off John's website in that book did not credit him in the slightest.

I'd definitely be interested in knowing the setlist from the 1987 Jackson, MS show where they opened for motley Crüe. I was at the show, but wasn't even quite a teenager yet and was not that familiar with GNR yet. If anyone has info on this show it'd be greatly appreciated! It's one of the few moments my father and I spent together.

I am sorry, I don't have anything to share of this gig. But anything you can remember would be of value to me.

Like seriously you didn't know about this website? http://gnrontour.com/

Building a tour history is very difficult, but I think GNR is one of the better documented bands. There's a lot of bands, some of the biggest bands out there, where their tour history was horribly documented and the end result is a lot of garbage info. Figuring out advertised shows that were rescheduled or canceled takes a lot of time to figure out.

It would be great to have it at the point Led Zeppelin and the Grateful Dead have been able to have a day to day record of the shows, posters, setlists, recordings, all in one place, like a virtual museum.

There's also the question of when GNR opened for other bands, did the headliners wind up taking video of them or recording their set, and it's been sitting in their vault the entire time? And by the same token, when GNR headlined, did they record the supporting acts and have it stashed away in the vault?
