I hope they use a vocal recording, other than the board recording. Axl's sound coming out of the speakers live at the show is so damn spot on it's amazing. Better than any of the dozen times I saw them in between 1988 and 1993. I've seen them 17 times since 2001, and the shows I saw in 2010, 2011, and 2012 were the best he's ever sounded. For whatever reason, the board does not quite catch the full dynamics of his range, and also Axl and Mayhue have figured out exactly how to get the sound live for the crowd damn near perfect (or as good as it gets for a live show). The guy can flat out wail, and everyone who has actually been at a show can attest to that.

So my recommendation, is to find some source for the vocals similar to whatever source "I Don't Care About Time" Tokyo 2009 used, on this 3-D recording. Many of the great concert movies, pre-2000's used different sources for the sound than the board (which is so damn dry and doesn't capture the audience vibe either). Think "Song Remains the Same, or the Stone's "Ladies and Gentlemen, The Rolling Stones". Or GN'R's MTV, 1988 special "Live at the Ritz". Those were not board recordings, and the sound is so much more organic!

Is there a good recording (the one that u say with the "tom mayhue" recording method) of a 2011/2012 show? what recordings are you talking about?

All over on Youtube! You Could be Mine with Duff from the 02, numerous high quality audience recordings from the audience of the US tour. Have you not been to a live show during the past few years?

saw them last year, yeah it was amazing, was like hearing the 90s axl but it was cuz it was too loud and with many people screaming and guitars, you just couldnt analyze the voice at the moment

I also remember hearing him very differently in a live setting. I remember very clearly how deep his voice was in the beginning of Out Ta Get me, for example. It's like video recordings don't capture that last 10% of his range that sort of wraps up his sound. I have never heard that on any youtube videos of that song so it's a hardly a coincidence that he sounded like that only during that concert.

He did sound a lot better in these youtube videos than in previous shows videos. Im sure he was trying to do his best since he knew they were filming. Pretty good vocals from the vids i've seen so far.

Looking forward to them putting out a concert film, 2D or 3D. Maybe we'll get a documentary concert film like Katy Perry and Justin Bieber had put out. They've both done well in theaters and with reviewers. Granted, it's going to be a rated R film, but will prob. wind up on Palladia and VH1 Classic.

I think if they also made it about Chinese Democracy itself and the crap Axl went through, would make for a great movie without all the bells, whistles and flying pianos. A straightforward concert film in a movie theater? Not sure if that's what they're planning.

I'm hoping that's what they're going for, and have some of the other filmed footage from the O2 in there.

Strippers and dancers in 3D is fine by me.

To anyone that went, did the cameras get in the way of the show, and did anyone go to see if they closed the Joint off because they're filming some closeups without the audience there? Usually when a concert film's being made, they do another show with just a camera crew there, or a handful of songs. Most of these guys behind the camera shot hundreds of shows for others, so they know how to get good shots and stay out of the way.

Should be interesting to see if it gets released, or Axl just goes "nah" and the Hard Rock just have a couple of songs they can run at the restaurants on the video screens.

It's a long story but it was one of the best concerts I've seen in my life. The whole thing about being the first obviously helped but it was also because it was truly a great show. Towards the end DJ jumped to the floor to finish a solo in front of us. He was inches from me and several cameras were caputing the moment. Most of the time I was in a trance, you know, "I can't believe I'm finally here and in the front", so I would lie if I said "this song was great ..." and so on. But I do remember paying much attention to Axl's voice quality. Even those "shhh" sound he makes here and there sounded like on the CDs. I don't know maybe it was just because it was being recorded, all I know is that I was blessed to see that show.
