Chinaski
Hendrix. No matter how much I entertain any other guitarist in a debate with Hendrix I always fall down on his side no matter how hard I try not to. He just oozes magic to me. Rovim
Hendrix. Not even close imo.
DieselDaisy
Hendrix. Page bores me. Clapton was good up to a point, with the Yardbirds, Bluesbreakers and Cream, but then become an armini suited pedestrian bluessmith. Van Halen was maybe the most innovative guitarist since Jimi but Hendrix it is.
izzygirl
I know Hendrix is gonna win this poll without a doubt but I voted for Clapton.
Guest Len B'stard
Hendrix shakes em all off like they was drippings off the end of his dick, no fuckin' question, absolutely no competition. For a kick off, none of the aforementioned were even as innovative as Hendrix, that alone puts him above them lot. Hendrix man, all fuckin' day, the guy was a beast, Hendrix was just completely fuckin' unique, he just seemed so comfortable with the guitar, like it was a limb, Christ just watch him play that thing, the way it sounds, the way he makes that fuckin' scream and wail and weep and wring sounds out of it, it's just breathtaking, Hendrix is probably the foremost talent, in the purest sense of the world, in the history of popular music, what he did with that instrument (as well as for that instrument) will never be fucking surpassed, i'm so fucking gay for Jimi Hendrix it's untrue.Seriously, i listenin to this guy like, on my ipod, walking the streets and in my head i'm like...egging him on with his playing :rofl-lol: Like G'WAN JIMI, PLAY THAT FUCKIN' SHIT!!! AWWW JIMI DON'T HURT EM WITH IT NOW, GO JIMI GO, TAKE IT!!! Everytime that fuckin' solo for Little Wing has that little precursor drum fill bit i feel like doing a Townshend leap on the pavement and air guitaring like a cunt Fuckin' Clapton, blew the cunt right off the stage, in his own manor, thats how much of a fuckin' gangster Seattle Jim was Love the boy, love him, there are members of my family i love less than Jimi Hendrix. Like, I recognize that Jimi is more influential and talented than Page, but I enjoy listening to Page's music more.Oh my opinion covers that as well man, he's a personal and heartfelt favorite as much as he is like, a cold, clinical assessment of music history type winner. he's just the complete package. What follows might sounds awfully arrogant but...it's one of those things where i don't understand why the entire world doesn't agree with me on this I mean have you EVER heard anyone play like that?!?! God, the riffs, Midnight Lamp, Purple Haze, Fire, Machine Gun, it just doesn't end. Fire, to me, is like the perfect rock n roll song, incendiary is the best word i can use to describe it, he just burns his way through that song, just lays into the solo and like, you can hear him egging himself on like "thats what i'm talkin' bout!", you kinda get a feel for the way he FELT music through that, it's to do with the building and building and building of his playing, God there's such an attack to playing in songs like that...and like Voodoo Chid. And then that fuckin' blues album, CHRIST ALMIGHTY, how sick is that fuckin' album? Catfish Blues, the way he makes that song sound, that CRUNKKK sound to the way he plays the riff (i realise crunk is a term in the hip hop vernacular but i didn't mean that, it's just the best word to describe that crunching electric sound he gets) and then Born Under a Bad Sign, he like, out Albert Kings Albert King, if that makes sense, when it kicks in before the lil bass intro and makes that EEEEEEEEEEEOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOWWW sound, that bend or whatever it is, right before he slots smoothly into playing it, it's amazing.See a lot of people can play and some can play fuckin' sick mental guitar but...Jimi sounds like...i can't even explain it, i can't think of the words, it's just...it's so HIM, y'know? It couldn't BE anyone else. It sounds so alive, people do his shit and it sounds flat as a witches tit, he added so much of himself to the character of a song, even if it weren't originally his there's just so much of him in his interpretation that the song becomes something else i mean, Christ, look at what he did to Dylans Watchtower, where the FUCK did he get that from huh, what the fuck was going on in that kids head that he heard this simple four chord folk song and like...he interpreted THAT much from it? Doesn't Dylan call that a Hendrix tune now?I remember this interview with John Frusciante where he's like Hendrix at one point like, was so frustrated at not being able to get the music in his head onto record that he thought about just quitting and laying around listening to the music in his head and getting lost in it forever, God how amazing is that, it's things like that that make me feel...optimistic about the oppertunities of life, makes me happy just thinking about it, God, what was going on in that bastards head that was BETTER than what he put on record?!?!Jimi Hendrixes music makes sense of smashing guitars, there is only one logical conclusion, one logical release to that sort of ascent of energy that he gave out.I just love the idea of Hendrix landing at Heathrow, linking up with Chas Chandler and going straight down to the fuckin' Bag O Nails or whatever shithole club it was and like, yeah, just put him up there with the best (Clapton) and he just fuckin' blows him apart, this little sheepish black lad from America, his version of Killing Floor makes me wanna wet my fuckin' pants, it's just rock on steroids.i will ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS enjoy Jimi's playing more, more than anybody, it's so clear and obvious to me, there's just no comparison whatsoever to that kid and i am agrieved and sick of heart that i was never able to walk the earth at the same time as that fucking beautiful man.Hendrix, all fucking day long man, on every concievable level. Don't you hear it too?!?! Thats the question i wanna ask EVERYBODY that don't think Hendrix is the greatest guitarist ever, don't you hear it?!?!?! I mean i understand, different tastes, different opinions, different inclinations but...just stop all that for a second, cut the words and just throw on Axis...don't you hear it?!?! Is it me, am i making more of it than whats there, am i just some kind of fuckin' fantasist, is it not one of those things that is just immediately obvious to everyone, right away, right on the spot? The man was truly exceptional, words fail me, the english language fails me, you can't explain Jimi Hendrix, it ain't about words, it's a feeling you get in your chest The best way i can explain is like...when you're gonna go on a night out and you're getting ready and you're all excited and you're gonna have a blinder of a time and get totally fuckin' pissed out of your head and run around like a nutter and like, you throw on some tunes you like and have maybe a quick livener or a line of coke and THAT feeling, THAT feeling right there, anyone thats ever done coke knows what i mean, that chest-swelling feeling you get where you feel totally fuckin' simian and adrenalinized, THAT, THAT feeling is what Hendrix feels like. High without drugs. Listen to the solo in Fire, it's all there Edited December 6, 2012 by sugaraylen

Kill Devil Hill
Clapton sounds great, but I like his tone a little less. I need to be in the right mood to listen to Eruption.Between Page and Hendrix. I grew up on Hendrix, and Voodoo Chile and Little Wing contain some of the best guitar I've ever heard, but Page is unstoppable when he does stuff like Since I've Been Loving You and Tea For One.I'll need some time to mull this over. I liked Clapton when he used the Gibson. Derek and the Dominos would be an exception since he played the Fender to Duane's Gibson and they sounded great together. Orsys
Wow, this is tough. I love the bluesy sounds of Clapton and Page. Probably listen to Clapton more as he has a wide catalog that appeals to me. but Hendrix was also so amazing, he's right up there too.So I guess Clapton for frquency of how often I listen to him over the others, but all three will always be on my iPod. DieselDaisy
To simplify the question, whose albums do you like better? I can see no albums released by Page, Eric or Van Halen that equel Are You Exp?, Axis, Electric Layland or Band of Gypsys.
